The Lock Screen’s photo filters and the Home Screen’s color, photo, and blur options are separate controls, so customize each screen deliberately.
Choose a still photo or a rotating wallpaper
Open Settings > Wallpaper > Add New Wallpaper. Choose Photos for a single image, or Photo Shuffle to rotate through a group. You can also open the wallpaper gallery by touching and holding the Lock Screen, then select an existing wallpaper or add one.
After making your choices, tap Add. Select Set as Wallpaper Pair to use the wallpaper on both screens, or Customize Home Screen to give the Home Screen a different appearance. Apple’s wallpaper setup guide documents these routes and options.
Change the Lock Screen photo’s color and style
In the Lock Screen editor, swipe left or right across the photo to preview the available styles and color filters. The choices depend on the selected image. These filters change the appearance of the Lock Screen photo; they are not a universal color slider for both screens. See Apple’s custom Lock Screen instructions.

Give the Home Screen a separate look
After tapping Customize Home Screen, choose a color, a photo, or Blur. These Home Screen options are distinct from the Lock Screen’s photo styles. Apple describes them in its iPhone wallpaper guide.
Set up Photo Shuffle
From Add New Wallpaper, choose Photo Shuffle. Select suggested categories, an album, or individual photos, then choose how often the image changes:

- On Tap: change it when you tap.
- On Lock: change it when the iPhone locks.
- Hourly: change it every hour.
- Daily: change it once a day.
To adjust an existing Photo Shuffle wallpaper, touch and hold the Lock Screen to open the gallery. Tap the photo thumbnail to change the selected photos, or tap More to change the shuffle frequency.
Try Depth Effect or Spatial Scene
Depth Effect
While customizing the Lock Screen, enable Depth Effect if the option appears. Apple also documents the route More > Depth Effect for a photo that supports the effect. It creates a layered appearance, but availability depends on the image; not every photo can use it.

Spatial Scene
On iPhone 12 or later running iOS 26, certain photos can be made into Spatial Scenes, which add a 3D effect to the Lock Screen. Apple says photos with good lighting and clear separation between subject and background, or landscape photos, are typical candidates. Those characteristics are guidance, not a guarantee that a particular image will qualify. The spatial effect appears on the Lock Screen, not the Home Screen. See Apple’s wallpaper instructions.
Which wallpaper option should you use?

If an effect or control is missing
- If Depth Effect is unavailable, the selected image may not support layering.
- If Spatial Scene is unavailable, check that the iPhone is an iPhone 12 or later running iOS 26, and try a photo with clear subject/background separation or a landscape composition. These factors do not guarantee eligibility.
- If you are looking for a Home Screen color option while editing the Lock Screen photo, finish or leave that editor and choose Customize Home Screen; the controls belong to different screens.
Labels and available choices can vary with iOS version and localization. Use the labels shown on your iPhone.
