Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFor a typical 1 Gbps connection, a properly specified Cat5e cable is sufficient within the cited 100 m reach. Choose Cat6 or better for multi-gigabit equipment; for 10GBASE-T, Intel lists Cat6 to 55 m and Cat6A to 100 m. Measure the route, check your device ports, and choose shielding for the installation environment—not simply because a cable has a more elaborate label.
Choose a category for your speed and cable run
Ethernet category describes cable capability, but the useful buying question is which category supports your application over the distance you need. Intel’s comparison lists these reaches for the specified Ethernet applications; NETGEAR’s support guidance, updated July 7, 2025, says Cat5e can serve 1 Gbps or less and recommends Cat6 or better for multi-gigabit devices. These figures describe application reach, not independent tests of retail cables.
| Category | Application and reach cited | When it makes sense |
|---|---|---|
| Cat5e | Intel lists 100 m for 1000BASE-T. NETGEAR says Cat5e can be used for 1 Gbps or less. | Ordinary gigabit links, provided the cable is properly specified. |
| Cat6 | Intel lists 100 m for 1000BASE-T and 55 m for 10GBASE-T. | A sensible option for multi-gigabit equipment or shorter 10GBASE-T runs. |
| Cat6A | Intel lists 100 m for 10GBASE-T. | Consider it when the planned application needs 10 Gbps over a longer run. |

What the 100 m figure means
Intel’s 100 m figures apply to the listed Ethernet applications; they are not a guarantee that any single cable labeled 100 m will work in every installation. A complete link can include fixed cabling, patch leads, connectors, and other components, and installation conditions affect whether the channel meets requirements. The cited sources provide category-level distance guidance, not a full installation specification. For permanent structured cabling, follow the applicable cabling specification rather than treating the figures as a DIY guarantee.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Measure the route, not just the straight-line distance
Estimate the cable path between ports, including the route around furniture, walls, or racks and any slack needed at either end. Avoid buying an unnecessarily long lead that will be difficult to route or manage. For a longer fixed run, distinguish the installed channel from a short patch cable and check that every component is suitable for the intended application.
Decide whether shielding is appropriate
Shielding describes how the cable is constructed; it is not an automatic performance upgrade for every home or office connection. Intel describes several common configurations:

In its standards FAQ, BICSI cites a particular 10GBASE-T context in which unscreened Cat6 reaches 55 m and screened Cat6 can potentially reach 100 m, subject to alien-crosstalk requirements. That qualification does not mean screened cable is necessary for an ordinary patch lead. The cited sources do not provide detailed grounding or bonding instructions; for a shielded permanent installation, use applicable cabling requirements or qualified installation guidance rather than improvising.

Check the connector and device ports
Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6A copper cables commonly use RJ45 connectors to connect network equipment such as routers, computers, and servers, according to Eaton’s cable guide. Before ordering, check that both devices have compatible Ethernet ports and that the cable ends match them. A category printed on a package does not guarantee compatibility with a different port or termination type.
