Read NMDC’s monthly production and sales report as a provisional update on iron ore volumes, not as a statement of revenue or profit. Check the reporting month and financial year, compare production with production and sales with sales, then distinguish the monthly figures from the cumulative year-to-date totals.
What NMDC’s monthly report tells you
NMDC’s filing reports iron ore production and sales in volume terms. It identifies the reporting month and financial year, marks the figures as provisional, and separates monthly figures from cumulative figures. The report does not, by itself, show prices, revenue, costs, margins, or profit.
The October 2025 disclosure, dated 1 November 2025, is titled “Details of Production & Sales of Iron Ore (Provisional) for and upto October, 2025.” It identifies the period as October 2025 in FY 2025-26. How to read the table
1. Check the month and financial year
Start with the filing date, subject line, and period covered. “Provisional” means the reported figures should not be described as final audited totals.

2. Separate the four measures
The table gives monthly production, monthly sales, cumulative production, and cumulative sales. “Cumulative up to October” means the financial-year-to-date total through October, not October alone. The prior-year columns provide the matching month and the matching year-to-date endpoint from a year earlier.
Make like-for-like comparisons: compare October production with October production a year earlier, and cumulative production through October with cumulative production through October a year earlier. Do the same for sales. A monthly number and a cumulative number cover different periods and should not be compared directly.

3. Read the geography rows before the total
The October table lists Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, and Total. The state rows show reported contributions by geography; the total gives the company-wide volume. The filing does not explain why a state’s contribution changed.
4. Read the unit carefully
The filing reports quantities in MT. In its table’s convention, 4.27 MT means 4.27 million tonnes. Spelling out “million tonnes” makes the scale clear and avoids confusing the figure with a single metric tonne.

Worked example: October 2025
NMDC’s total row reports the following provisional iron ore volumes. Figures are in million tonnes, as represented by the filing’s MT convention. NMDC Limited, October 2025 filing

The table supports two straightforward observations: October production exceeded October sales, and both cumulative production and cumulative sales were higher than their year-earlier comparison values. It does not explain the monthly production-sales gap, so that difference alone does not establish an inventory change, timing effect, product-mix effect, or other cause.

For geographic context, October 2025 production and sales were 3.06 and 2.77 million tonnes in Chhattisgarh, and 1.21 and 1.12 million tonnes in Karnataka. Production and sales are distinct volume measures: production records output, while sales records volume sold. If production is higher than sales in a month, the table does not say why. It also does not provide the realized price per tonne or link specific tonnes to revenue, so volumes alone cannot be used to calculate revenue or profitability.

The latest monthly filing directly covered by this dated example is for October 2025 and was filed on 1 November 2025; that does not establish it as NMDC’s latest report on 7 October 2026. To analyze a different month, verify the intended period on NMDC’s investor disclosure page and apply the same checks for provisional status, units, monthly versus cumulative columns, prior-year matches, and geography.
