A belt bag or fanny pack is the simplest alternative when you only need a phone, wallet, tickets, and a few essentials. Choose a small sling for a different carry position, a compact backpack when you need room for a layer or rain gear, or pockets if you can safely carry everything without a bag. Before you pack, check your park’s current bag rules and the storage instructions for attractions you plan to ride.
Choose a bag by what you need to carry
The right alternative depends less on the bag’s name than on its capacity, how you want it to sit while you walk, how easily you need to reach your items, and whether you can store it when an attraction requires that. A Disney planDisney panelist offered similar dated guest-service guidance in 2022: she preferred a belt bag or small crossbody for bare essentials, and a backpack when she might need a sweatshirt or rain gear. Bag rules depend on the destination
Disneyland Resort’s current rules prohibit bags larger than 24 inches long by 15 inches wide by 18 inches high. That limit applies to Disneyland Resort; do not assume another park uses the same measurements. Check Disneyland Resort’s Park Rules and Regulations or the official rules for the park you plan to visit.
Universal Orlando says bags, backpacks, purses, packages, and personal items are subject to X-ray and/or additional inspection before entering CityWalk or a theme park. Review Universal Orlando’s policies for the current requirements.

Admission approval does not determine ride access
A bag that meets a park’s entrance rules may still need to be stored for a particular attraction. Disney guest-service guidance notes that some attractions provide storage and that some require items to be stored. Check the ride instructions at your destination rather than assuming a belt bag, sling, or backpack can stay with you on every attraction.
A quick way to decide what to bring
