First, check the IPO registrar’s allotment status and the bid status with the channel you used to apply. A missing share credit does not by itself mean your application was rejected. Then follow the branch that matches your actual status: rejected application, no allotment with funds blocked, funds debited without allotment, or allotment confirmed but shares missing from your demat account.

Check the application and allotment status first

  1. Check the registrar’s result. Use the registrar named for that IPO to confirm whether your application was rejected, received no allotment, or was allotted shares. The NSE FAQ says allotment-related details should be checked with the registrar.
  2. Confirm the bid with your submission channel. If you applied through a broker, bank, depository participant (DP), or another intermediary, ask it to confirm that the bid was submitted and check the payment or mandate status.
  3. Use NSE’s bid verification module if needed. NSE says its module can show bids entered against a registered PAN; the data is available six days after the issue closes. A UPI block alone does not confirm that a valid bid was submitted or that shares were allotted.

Keep the application reference, issue name, PAN, bid details, UPI mandate status, and bank transaction record available while you check.

What each status means and what to do

Status you see What it may mean First action
Registrar says the application was rejected A validation, eligibility, or issue-specific technical rule may have applied. Ask the registrar for the stated reason and compare it with your application and the offer document.
No shares allotted; funds remain blocked The application was unsuccessful, but the block has not been released. Contact the UPI app, bank or SCSB, registrar, merchant banker, or submitting intermediary with application and mandate details.
No shares allotted; funds were debited The payment needs to be reconciled against the application and allotment. Complain through the UPI app or contact the bank, registrar, merchant banker, or intermediary. Give the application details and mandate number.
Allotment confirmed; shares are absent from demat The credit may be pending, or the application may name a different demat account. Check the demat details in the application and contact the registrar and your DP.
UPI mandate did not arrive The request may not have reached or been accepted in the UPI app. Check pending requests and contact the member through which you placed the bid promptly.

If the application was rejected

Ask the issue registrar for the specific rejection reason, then compare it with your application record, PAN, applicant-owned bank or UPI details, and demat particulars. Rejection rules can depend on the issue, so check its offer document rather than assuming a general list covers every case.

SEBI says a retail individual investor’s application using a third-party UPI ID, or an application in any category using a third-party bank account, is liable for rejection. The applicant’s payment and identity details should therefore match the application requirements. See SEBI’s UPI-ASBA guidance and the NSE e-IPO FAQ.

NSE also says one bid per PAN is allowed. Its FAQ notes: “One bid per pan is allowed, thereafter which system shall not block any investor placing further orders, but the order is likely to be rejected while allotment.” Contact the registrar for technical rejection details and consult the issue prospectus for the applicable technical rules.

If there was no allotment and the funds are still blocked

Under UPI-ASBA, the application amount is blocked in your account rather than transferred upfront. If shares are allotted, the amount for the shares allocated is debited; if there is no allotment, the block should be released. SEBI says an investor can complain through the UPI app or contact the bank/SCSB, registrar, merchant banker, or intermediary handling the application if the block remains.

Provide the issue name, application number or reference, PAN, bid details, bank account, UPI ID, and mandate status. Include the unique mandate number if one is shown so the relevant party can trace the block. See SEBI’s UPI-ASBA FAQ.

If funds were debited but no shares were allotted

Do not treat a debit notification as proof of allotment. SEBI explains: “Under the UPI framework, the investor will be notified of the debit of funds from the bank account. However, the process of communicating the share allotment process shall be separate, as per the extant process.” Confirm the allotment with the registrar, then raise the mismatch through the UPI app or with the bank, registrar, merchant banker, or intermediary.

State the amount and transaction date, attach the bank or UPI transaction record, and provide your application details. If more was debited than the value of shares allotted, include the unique mandate number. The relevant instructions are in SEBI’s UPI-ASBA FAQ.

If the UPI mandate did not arrive

Check the pending-request or mandate area in your UPI app, then ask the member through which you placed the bid to confirm the mandate status. NSE says the member may re-initiate a mandate once during the issue period, subject to its system process. Since the application window and issue cutoffs matter, contact the member promptly rather than assuming a request can be re-sent after the issue closes. See the NSE e-IPO FAQ and SEBI’s UPI-ASBA FAQ.

If allotment is confirmed but shares are missing from demat

Check the demat account and beneficiary details entered in the application. IPO shares are allotted in demat form, so contact the registrar and your depository participant with the allotment result and the account details used on the application.

SEBI does not set a single universal number of hours for demat credit in the reviewed FAQ. Use the schedule published for that IPO, and contact the registrar if the shares are still absent after the stated credit date. The UPI debit notification and allotment communication are separate; see SEBI’s UPI-ASBA FAQ.

Escalate an unresolved complaint

  1. Start with the party responsible for the step. Contact the registrar about allotment, the bank or UPI channel about a block or debit, or the submitting intermediary about the bid or mandate.
  2. Keep a clear record. Save the application and mandate details, transaction evidence, correspondence, and each complaint reference.
  3. Use SCORES if the securities-market grievance remains unresolved. SEBI says investors should first approach the concerned entity and then lodge a complaint through SCORES if necessary.

The current SCORES FAQ gives entities 21 calendar days to submit an Action Taken Report. If dissatisfied with the report, an investor may seek a first-level review within 15 calendar days. SCORES facilitates grievance redressal; it does not guarantee a reversal, allotment, or compensation.
