There is no reliable brand-wide answer to “Which has the better camera, iPhone or Xiaomi?” Compare the exact models you can buy, then judge their photos and video in the situations you care about. Megapixel counts and feature lists describe hardware; they do not establish which phone produces better results.
Start with the exact models and local versions
“iPhone” and “Xiaomi” cover phones with different camera hardware and features. Choose the two specific models—and, where relevant, regional versions—you are considering. Xiaomi notes that camera layouts and feature availability can vary by model in its camera overview. Do not assume a comparison between one pair applies to every phone from either brand.
The iPhone 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 provide current examples of why model-level comparison matters. Their official specifications outline different focal-length coverage and capture features, but do not show which phone takes better pictures. For the iPhone 17 Pro, see Apple’s camera specifications; for Xiaomi 17, see Xiaomi’s product specifications.
Use specifications to understand coverage, not to declare a winner
Megapixels indicate image dimensions, not overall camera quality. The iPhone 17 Pro lists three 48MP rear cameras, while Xiaomi 17 lists three 50MP rear cameras. Those manufacturer figures do not determine detail, color, low-light performance, motion capture, or video quality.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Focal lengths and zoom descriptions can help you predict which views are available, but read the wording carefully. Apple lists a 24mm main camera, 13mm ultra-wide, 100mm 4x telephoto, and a 200mm optical-quality 8x option for iPhone 17 Pro. Its specifications also describe a 16x optical-quality zoom range and digital zoom up to 40x. Xiaomi lists a 23mm main camera, 17mm ultra-wide, and 60mm floating telephoto for Xiaomi 17, and describes 5x optical-level zoom. “Optical-quality” and “optical-level” are the manufacturers’ terms; do not treat them as interchangeable with a dedicated optical lens at every zoom setting.
| Example model | Manufacturer-listed rear cameras and coverage | Zoom wording | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone 17 Pro | Three 48MP cameras: 24mm main, 13mm ultra-wide, 100mm 4x telephoto; a 200mm 8x option is also listed. | 16x optical-quality zoom range; digital zoom up to 40x. | Apple, iPhone 17 Pro tech specs |
| Xiaomi 17 | Three 50MP cameras: 23mm main, 17mm ultra-wide, 60mm floating telephoto; the ultra-wide is listed with a 102° field of view. | 5x optical-level zoom. | Xiaomi 17 product page |
These are manufacturer specifications, not results from a controlled head-to-head image test. A separate Xiaomi example illustrates the importance of keeping models distinct: Xiaomi’s UK Xiaomi 15 page lists a 23mm main, 60mm floating telephoto, and 14mm ultra-wide camera. Those Xiaomi 15 details should not be mixed into a Xiaomi 17 comparison. See Xiaomi UK’s Xiaomi 15 specifications.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Compare photos and video as separate jobs
A phone that suits your still-photo habits may be a poorer fit for how you record or edit video. The manufacturers list different capture modes, formats, stabilization, and video capabilities. Decide which features matter in your workflow, then evaluate actual output rather than treating a specification list as a quality score.
- Still photos: compare detail, exposure, color, portraits, motion, low light, and the cameras you use most.
- Video: assess stabilization, exposure transitions, focus changes, sound, resolution and frame-rate options, and front-camera output.
- Workflow: consider camera launch and shutter response, available controls and file formats, and how easily footage or images fit your transfer, editing, social-media, or work routine.
Run a fair side-by-side test
Use the exact two phones and software versions you are considering. Keep the subject, viewpoint, lighting, and framing as consistent as practical. For stills, match focal lengths as closely as possible and note the selected lens or zoom setting; a stable mount can help repeat a scene from the same position. It is optional, and a fixed position for stills does not make handheld video tests equivalent.

- Take everyday daylight shots. Photograph fine textures at similar framing. Inspect the resulting images at a consistent size rather than choosing a winner from the camera preview alone.
- Test high contrast. Include a bright sky, lamp, or window alongside shadows. Check whether highlights retain detail and darker areas remain usable.
- Repeat in low light. Look at noise, motion blur, color, and consistency across the main camera and other cameras you commonly use.
- Photograph people and movement. Check skin tones, exposure, hair detail, portrait separation, focus reliability, and sharpness on a walking person, pet, or child.
- Check field of view, zoom, and close-ups. Compare the widest cameras and the focal lengths you actually use. Keep optical, sensor-crop or “optical-quality” claims, and digital zoom distinct. Include close subjects and selfies if they matter to you.
- Record video separately. Walk while recording, then review stabilization, exposure changes, focus transitions, sound, and the resolution and frame-rate settings you would use.
- Begin with default automatic capture. It reflects how many buyers use a phone. Then try specific modes or controls you expect to rely on.
- Compare like with like. Do not treat one phone’s processed JPEG and the other phone’s RAW file as equivalent outputs. Review both using the same viewing conditions and, if you edit, a workflow you would actually use.
Choose based on your own priorities
There is no single test scene that answers every buyer’s question. Give more weight to the situations you encounter most: children or pets in motion, night scenes, portraits, distant subjects, ultra-wide landscapes, handheld video, or quick automatic snapshots. If a feature is important, verify it on the exact local model rather than assuming it is shared across a brand’s lineup.
The official product pages establish what Apple and Xiaomi list for these examples; they do not establish an overall camera-quality winner. A definitive verdict would require a recent, credible comparison of the same models that explains its conditions and shows comparable samples. Without that evidence, a brand-level claim such as “iPhone is better” or “Xiaomi is better” goes beyond what the specifications can support.
