Choose the check that matches what you need: an application tracker requires its ARN, public GSTIN information is available through Search Taxpayer, and a payment is confirmed by the portal’s status and Electronic Cash Ledger—not by a bank debit alone.
How do I check my GST registration application status?
Track a submitted application using its Application Reference Number (ARN). A saved application that has not been submitted is still a draft; it is not yet a filed application with an ARN to track.
- Open the GST Portal.
- Go to Services > Registration > Track Application Status.
- Enter the ARN and follow the portal’s prompts to view the latest status or any action requested.
The GST Portal registration guide describes an application as “Draft” before submission and “Pending for Validation” after submission. Once an ARN is issued, use that number in the tracker. Follow any clarification request or order shown in your account rather than inferring a result from a delay; there is no universal processing time established here for every Kerala application. How can I check whether a GST number is active?
Use the portal’s Search Taxpayer service for a public lookup. It can be used without logging in and accepts a GSTIN, UIN, or PAN. Search results can show taxpayer identity, GSTIN/UIN status, registration and cancellation details, and return-filing information.

- On the GST Portal, open Search Taxpayer.
- Choose the relevant search option and enter the GSTIN, UIN, or PAN.
- Review the displayed registration status and other available details.
This is useful for checking a supplier or viewing publicly exposed filing information. It is not a substitute for the taxpayer’s full logged-in account records. The official Search Taxpayer guide explains the lookup and the information it displays.
How do I see if my GST return was filed?
For your own return, log in to the GST Portal and check the relevant tax period in the return dashboard or return history. Confirm that the return shows Filed and retain the filing acknowledgment or reference generated by the portal. A public Search Taxpayer result can provide a quick view of filing details, but your account is the appropriate place to confirm a specific period.

The official GSTR-3B filing guide says the return status changes to “Filed” after successful filing. If the status does not show that, check the return period and the account’s filing records rather than treating a saved or prepared return as filed.

Check the challan or payment status in the GST Portal and verify whether the amount appears in the Electronic Cash Ledger (GST PMT-05). The portal says the amount is credited to this ledger after successful confirmation from the bank. A debit in your bank account by itself does not establish that the GST payment has posted.

- Sign in to the GST Portal and open the payment tracking or challan records for the transaction.
- Check the transaction’s portal status and compare its details with your challan and bank reference.
- Open the Electronic Cash Ledger and confirm that the payment amount has been credited.
If your bank shows a debit but the portal has not confirmed the payment or the ledger has not been credited, treat the transaction as unconfirmed and follow the portal’s payment records or official help guidance. The GST Portal online payment FAQ describes credit to the Electronic Cash Ledger after successful bank confirmation.

What should I do if a status is stuck or unclear?
- Keep the ARN for an application, or the GSTIN and return period for a filing query.
- For a payment mismatch, keep the challan details and bank reference alongside the portal status and ledger entry.
- Read any clarification request, notice, or order shown in the portal and respond through the indicated process.
- If you need professional assistance, GSTN identifies GST Practitioners as a category that can help with registration, returns, and payments. Use the official GST Portal resources to locate a practitioner, then verify the person’s credentials and suitability before engaging them.
