That is because the account’s combined trophy view and a game’s version-specific trophy setup are different things. Publishers decide how individual games handle versions, saves, and trophies; there is no single outcome for every title.
Why one account can show separate lists for the same game
PlayStation’s trophy view combines trophies from PS3, PS Vita, PS4, and PS5. That account-level view does not mean every release of a particular game shares one set. Sony describes PS5 games as unique versions made for the console, and some PS4 games can be upgraded to digital PS5 versions. A game’s PS4 and PS5 releases may therefore have different trophy arrangements.
Sony’s 2020 PS5 FAQ says save transfer between a PS4 version and a PS5 version is a developer decision that varies by title. That statement is about saves; it does not establish a universal rule for how trophy lists must be implemented. The practical answer is game-specific: the publisher may use a shared set or separate sets for different versions.
Examples show why save transfer and trophy transfer are not the same

These publisher examples demonstrate different outcomes; they do not establish how common either arrangement is. Nor do the available official statements identify a technical requirement or Sony policy that forces every native PS5 release to have a separate list.

Will your trophies transfer when you move a save to PS5?
Not necessarily. Save migration and trophy migration are separate questions. A publisher may allow a save to move between versions without carrying over already-earned trophies, may keep existing trophies visible while assigning new ones to a different set, or may reflect some ongoing progress only after you repeat the relevant action. Sony’s guidance leaves save-transfer behavior to the developer, and the publisher examples show that trophy behavior also varies by game.
Before switching versions, look for the game publisher’s guidance on both save migration and trophy unlocks. In particular, check whether the publisher says that trophies transfer, unlock automatically, remain visible in the account, or require you to meet their conditions again in the new version.

How to check which version and trophy information you are viewing
- Identify the installed release. Confirm whether you are playing the PS4 version, a native PS5 version, or an upgraded PS5 copy. The version matters because publishers can assign trophies differently.
- Open the trophy information. On PS5, select your profile picture, choose Trophies, and select the game. On PS4, open Trophies from the function screen and select the game. These navigation steps are documented by PlayStation Support Australia.
- Check the publisher’s support page. Search for the exact game and version, then confirm whether the sets are shared or separate and what happens to earned trophies and in-progress requirements after a save transfer.
PlayStation’s support guidance explains how to view trophy information, but the number of trophies, their grades, and the conditions for earning them vary by game. A trophy total or list visible on your profile alone does not tell you whether a different version will use the same set.
