You can try Claude in the Amazon Bedrock console, then call it from an application with the Bedrock Runtime API. For a new conversation app, start with Converse or ConverseStream if your selected Claude model supports it; use InvokeModel for direct model-specific requests or the Anthropic Messages API when you need its native format. Model access, model IDs, features, and regional availability vary, so confirm them in your AWS account before building.
Try Claude in the Amazon Bedrock console
- Sign in to the AWS Management Console and open Amazon Bedrock.
- Choose a supported AWS Region, then open the model catalog and select an Anthropic Claude model available to your account in that Region.
- Follow the model’s access instructions. If access is enabled, open the model playground, enter a prompt, and run it to explore the model.
The model catalog, access instructions, and model card in your account are the best places to confirm availability and supported features. AWS says many models are enabled by default where supported, but Anthropic models require users to submit first-time-use details before invoking them. See AWS’s model access documentation and supported models reference.
Check access prerequisites before troubleshooting code
Access can differ between AWS accounts, including accounts in the same organization. Before changing an API request, check each of these in the account and Region you intend to use:
- First-time use: Submit the Anthropic model-use details requested by AWS.
- Model availability: Confirm that the exact Claude model is available in the selected Region and enabled for the account.
- Permissions: Verify the calling IAM identity can use the relevant Bedrock operation and has any required Marketplace permissions.
- Billing setup: Ensure the account has a valid payment method if AWS requires one for model access.
Access provisioning or subscription setup may take time. If a request returns AccessDeniedException, check the documented prerequisites and account entitlement first; repeated code changes will not fix an access restriction.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose the API that fits your application
AWS recommends the bedrock-runtime endpoint for new applications. The key choice is the request interface: a shared Bedrock message API, direct model-specific invocation, or Anthropic’s native Messages format.
| API | Use it when | Request format and considerations |
|---|---|---|
Converse / ConverseStream |
You are building a conversation experience or want a common interface across message-capable models. | Uses Bedrock’s messages structure and common inference settings. Converse also supports tool configuration and guardrails. Confirm your chosen Claude model supports the operation. AWS describes Converse as a consistent API for Bedrock models that support messages. See Converse documentation. |
InvokeModel |
You need direct access to a model’s request and response format. | Uses the model-specific body, so request fields and response parsing can vary by model. Check the model parameters reference for compatibility and format. |
| Anthropic Messages API | You need to use Anthropic’s Messages request format through an AWS-documented endpoint. | Follow AWS’s Messages API endpoint and Anthropic version requirements. Authentication and endpoint options depend on which endpoint you use. See Messages API documentation. |
Do not assume that every Claude model supports the same APIs or capabilities. Check the selected model’s current card and AWS’s model catalog before relying on streaming, tools, guardrails, or a particular request format.

Set up authentication and IAM permissions
AWS’s quickstart demonstrates short-term API-key authentication for an initial request, but recommends IAM roles or temporary credentials for production. AWS’s long-term API-key walkthrough limits its recommendation to exploration and development. Avoid embedding durable credentials in source code; use an AWS SDK credential provider or another approved mechanism and grant only the permissions the application needs. See the Bedrock API quickstart and API key guidance.
For authorization, Converse uses bedrock:InvokeModel; streaming Converse requires bedrock:InvokeModelWithResponseStream. Anthropic Messages authentication depends on endpoint: AWS documents SigV4, Bedrock API keys, or a short-term bearer token for bedrock-runtime, with separate options for bedrock-mantle. Consult the Messages API documentation and your SDK’s credential guidance for the endpoint you choose.

Make a first request with Python and Converse
The following illustrates the request shape documented in AWS’s quickstart. Replace the placeholder with a model ID currently available to your account in the target Region, and configure AWS credentials through an appropriate provider before running it.
import boto3
client = boto3.client("bedrock-runtime", region_name="us-east-1")
response = client.converse(
modelId="<current-supported-claude-model-id>",
messages=[{"role": "user", "content": [{"text": "Hello"}]}],
)
print(response)
The example uses us-east-1 as a region value, not as a claim that a particular Claude model is available there. Find a current model ID and region in the AWS model catalog, then compare the request with the Bedrock API quickstart.

Keep model and region choices current
Claude model IDs, regional support, and feature compatibility change over time. Treat copied IDs and examples as illustrative, not permanent configuration. Before deployment, verify the model ID, supported operation, and relevant features against the live AWS catalog and the selected model card; update IAM permissions if you switch between standard and streaming operations.
