Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

Check each game’s official recommended PC requirements, set your target resolution, then compare the exact graphics card, processor, RAM, and SSD capacity in candidate systems. If an upcoming game has no published PC requirements, no configuration can yet be confirmed for it.
Start with the games, not a universal PC specification
Open-world games do not share one standard hardware requirement. Look up the minimum and recommended PC specifications for each game on its official publisher or store page. The minimum tier is a basic compatibility reference; the recommended tier is the more useful shopping target if you want a comfortable experience. Neither tier guarantees a particular frame rate or visual setting.
Requirements can change as a listing is updated, so revisit the game’s page before buying. Microsoft likewise cautions that “Game requirements may vary.” Intel’s gaming-PC guidance also advises checking the recommended requirements for the game you intend to play.
Set a resolution target before comparing systems
Decide whether you want to play at Full HD (FHD), QHD, or 4K, then choose a monitor that supports that resolution. These are meaningful display targets, and higher resolutions place a different graphics demand on a PC. A component list alone cannot tell you what frame rate or image quality a particular game will deliver; that requires performance testing for the exact hardware and game.

When comparing listings, make sure you are evaluating systems against the same goal. A PC selected for one resolution should not be assumed to provide the same experience at another. Microsoft’s gaming-PC buyer guide outlines FHD, QHD, and 4K as gaming display options.
Compare the components that determine whether a game fits
Graphics card and processor
Match the exact GPU and CPU models in the PC listing to the game’s recommended specifications. Both the graphics card and processor affect in-game frame rate, and Microsoft recommends a discrete GPU for gaming. Do not assume that two PCs with the same broad label, such as “gaming PC,” will perform alike: the component models matter.

Memory
Check installed RAM against the requirements for your target games, and consider whether you plan to run other applications while playing. Microsoft’s general gaming-buyer guidance gives a broad range of 16 GB to 64 GB; that is shopping guidance, not a requirement for every open-world title. Game-specific requirements should take priority.
SSD capacity
Compare the game’s required available space with the PC’s usable SSD capacity and how many large games you want installed at once. An advertised drive’s full capacity is not all available for games because the operating system and other files also use space. If you expect to add a drive later, verify the PC supports the drive’s interface and form factor and has an open slot or bay.

Choose between a prebuilt PC and a custom build
Prebuilt system
A prebuilt is a complete-system choice. Compare its listed CPU, GPU, RAM, and SSD with your game requirements, then check the manufacturer’s specifications for upgrade options and drive compatibility. A parts list is not a substitute for benchmarks: without testing for the specific game and configuration, do not infer a precise frame rate.
Custom build
A custom build gives you control over component selection, but every part must work with the others. Check CPU and motherboard compatibility, RAM support, GPU clearance in the case, power-supply capacity and connectors, cooling, and available storage connections. Remember to include a monitor and other peripherals if you do not already own them. Intel’s PC-building guide discusses the build route alongside choosing a prebuilt system.
A practical checklist before you buy
- List your target games. Open each game’s official requirements page and note the recommended CPU, GPU, RAM, and storage.
- Choose your display goal. Decide on FHD, QHD, or 4K and select a monitor that supports it.
- Compare exact CPU and GPU models. Check them against each game’s recommended tier; do not rely only on a retailer’s “gaming” label.
- Check RAM and storage. Compare installed memory with the game requirements and check free SSD capacity against game sizes and the number of titles you want installed.
- Verify upgrades and compatibility. For a prebuilt, confirm what can be upgraded. For a custom build, verify component compatibility, case fit, power, cooling, and storage connections.
- Recheck volatile details. Confirm current system requirements, platform availability, and the exact configuration before purchase.
Current prices, component availability, and comparative benchmarks are not established by the cited specifications, so compare live listings and independent tests before choosing between similarly configured PCs.
