To stop the next wine-club charge or shipment, check your account for the next billing, order-placement, and shipment dates, then submit a cancellation or pause request through the provider’s required channel before its cutoff. There is no universal deadline: some clubs require a request days or weeks ahead, and an order already processed may still be charged and shipped. Save the confirmation and check your next statement.
Cancel or pause before the club’s cutoff
Start with the wine club’s current terms in your account. A billing date, order-placement date, and estimated shipment date may be different, and the cutoff may be tied to any one of them. Use the provider’s stated deadline rather than assuming that a request made before the delivery date will stop the order.
- Identify the membership and dates. Log in and note your provider, membership tier, next billing date, order-placement date, and estimated ship date. Check recent order emails as well as the account page.
- Read the current cancellation and pause terms. Look for the cutoff, any minimum shipment commitment, skip limits, the channel required to submit the request, and how the club treats orders already in process.
- Choose whether to leave or defer. Cancel if you want to end the membership. If you want to remain a member, check whether you can skip or pause a shipment and when billing, deliveries, and member benefits resume.
- Submit through the designated channel. Use the account or membership page, portal, email, phone, or form specified by the club. If the cutoff is close and an immediate online flow is available, use it rather than relying on a channel that may take days to process.
- Keep proof and verify the status. Save the confirmation email, screenshot, or reference number. For a phone request, note the date, time, and conversation details. Check that the account reflects the change.
- Review your next statement. If a charge appears after a timely request, contact the provider with your confirmation and, if needed, ask your card issuer about its dispute process.
Pause and cancellation are different
A cancellation ends the membership according to the club’s terms. A pause or skip may defer one or more deliveries while leaving the account open. It does not necessarily stop a shipment that has already entered processing, and the club may limit consecutive skips or change which benefits remain active while paused. Before choosing a pause, confirm how many shipments you can skip and when payments and deliveries restart.
Why the deadline and channel vary
Published wine-club policies use different deadline rules: a cutoff may be measured from the next shipment, the next billing date, or the date an order is placed. They also differ in how much lead time they request and how quickly alternate contact channels are processed. These examples illustrate the variation; they are not a complete directory, and a provider may change its terms.

Check for minimum commitments and orders already in progress
Some clubs require a minimum number of shipments or reserve the right to reclaim a discount under the signup terms. Others say an order processed before cancellation remains payable or nonrefundable. Read the terms that applied when you joined as well as the current membership policy, especially if your account was enrolled under an older plan or a particular membership cohort.
If the next order is already processed or shipped, a pause or cancellation may prevent later renewals but may not reverse that order. Contact the club promptly to ask what applies to the specific order; do not assume cancellation automatically produces a refund.

What to do if a charge continues after cancellation
The Federal Trade Commission’s September 2024 consumer guidance advises consumers to follow the company’s cancellation instructions, retain a copy of the request and notes from conversations, monitor payment statements, and contact the credit or debit card company about continued charges. The FTC also suggests reporting subscription problems to the agency or a state attorney general. A dispute does not guarantee a refund or a particular outcome; keep your confirmation and follow the relevant payment provider’s process.
In an October 2024 announcement, the FTC said it received nearly 70 complaints per day on average in 2024 about negative-option and recurring-subscription practices, compared with 42 per day in 2021. Those figures cover subscription-related complaints generally, not wine clubs specifically. The FTC’s consumer guidance is practical U.S. advice; applicable rights and procedures can differ by location.
