The right choice depends on whether you prefer a familiar built-in app, a planner-style interface, or extra calendar views and productivity features. These are a needs-based shortlist, not a tested ranking.
Which iPhone calendar app should you choose?

Apple Calendar: Google events in the built-in app
Apple Calendar is the simplest place to start if you want Google events alongside your other iPhone calendars. Google’s instructions say to add your Google account in iPhone settings and enable Calendars; events then appear in the iPhone Calendar app. See Google’s iPhone setup instructions.
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Open the Calendar account settings and choose the option to add an account.
- Select Google, sign in, and make sure the Calendars option is enabled for that account.
- Open the Calendar app and check that the Google calendars you want to see are selected.
Settings labels can differ across iOS versions. Apple’s iPhone Calendar settings guide also explains that accounts without Push support can use a Fetch schedule. You can choose a default calendar for new events; events you create are added to that selected calendar.
Where Apple Calendar differs from Google Calendar
Google lists two limitations when using Apple Calendar: it does not provide Google Calendar event email notifications, and you cannot create new Google calendars from Apple Calendar. If either function is essential, use Google Calendar itself or check whether a third-party app supports the workflow you need. Connecting an account should not be taken to mean that every Google Calendar feature is available in Apple Calendar.

Calendars by Readdle: a third-party planner interface
Readdle says Calendars can connect directly to Google Calendar, or display calendars already configured through iOS settings. With syncing enabled, changes flow between Calendars and the connected services. Its account setup guide explains how to add services; the App Store listing describes calendar views and planner-related features.
Consider it if you want a dedicated planner-style interface rather than the standard iPhone Calendar layout. Before relying on a particular feature, check the current listing and in-app plan details: subscription tiers and app features can change.

Fantastical: multiple views and productivity features
Fantastical supports adding a Google account directly. Flexibits’ iOS setup guide walks through connecting an account and granting calendar access. Its App Store listing describes multiple calendar views and subscription features.
If a shared Google calendar is missing, Flexibits advises checking Google Sync Settings to confirm that the calendar is enabled. If you use a Google Workspace account managed by an organization, its administrator may restrict access by third-party apps; you may need approval before connecting.

How to compare the options for your routine
Check the details that affect your day-to-day use before settling on an app:
- Connection method: Does the app use the Google account added to iOS, connect to Google directly, or offer both methods?
- Calendar coverage: Can you see each personal and shared calendar you rely on? Confirm that shared calendars are enabled where required.
- Events and reminders: Make sure the app supports the event and reminder workflows you actually use; do not assume that account syncing includes every Google feature.
- Views and access: Compare the layouts, widgets, accessibility options, and cross-device support that matter to you.
- Updates and notifications: Check how the app handles notifications and background updating, especially if prompt changes matter for your schedule.
- Ongoing cost: Review current subscription terms and which features are included before choosing based on a paid feature.
The available product documentation establishes Google account connections, but it does not establish that one option syncs faster or more reliably than another.

What about the Google Calendar app?
If you want Google’s own interface and features, consider using the Google Calendar app for iPhone rather than treating Apple Calendar as a full replacement. The setup guidance for syncing Google Calendar with Apple Calendar is available from Google Calendar Help. Choose between Google’s app and a connected calendar app based on the interface and workflows you want; account syncing alone does not guarantee feature parity.
