If you want dark fantasy with combat that demands attention, start with Elden Ring, Dark Souls III, Lies of P, or Remnant II. They offer different kinds of challenge: open-world exploration and build choices, focused Soulslike encounters, Belle Époque-inspired dark fantasy, and co-op ranged combat. The available recommendation supports those features, but does not establish a comparative difficulty ranking.
Focused Soulslike combat: Dark Souls III
Dark Souls III is the more direct pick if you want a Soulslike experience framed around demanding encounters and a focused progression rather than an open-world structure. Steam’s listing carries the Dark Fantasy and Difficult tags. Those labels help with discovery, but they are not a standardized difficulty score.

Belle Époque dark fantasy: Lies of P
Lies of P pairs the Soulslike format with a Belle Époque-inspired setting and a reimagining of Pinocchio. Steam also labels it Dark Fantasy, Difficult, and Action RPG. Consider it when setting and style are as important to you as the combat category.
Co-op and ranged action: Remnant II
Remnant II is the clearest choice here if you want to fight at range or play co-op. Steam describes it as a third-person shooter/action RPG featuring co-op, deadly creatures, and bosses. That makes it a useful alternative for players who want challenging action but do not specifically want a melee-centered Soulslike.

How to interpret Steam’s tags
Steam’s discovery interface uses labels such as Dark Fantasy, Difficult, Action RPG, and Controller to help categorize games. A tag is a platform taxonomy label, not proof that every tagged title plays alike, has the same level of difficulty, or requires a controller. Check the individual listing for details relevant to your preferences and setup.
A controller is an optional input preference to consider for real-time action games, not a requirement established for every game in this list. The broad soulslike discovery page’s Controller tag does not confirm specific compatibility or a controller requirement for each title.
