For most 1440p gamers, the GeForce RTX 5070 is the faster card in the available independent averages, especially with ray tracing—but its lead in standard rasterized games is small enough that the RX 9070 GRE may be the better buy at a lower local price. Both cards have 12GB of memory. Compare the games you play, current prices, and the exact card’s power connectors before choosing.
Which card is faster for 1440p gaming?
The RTX 5070 has a modest lead in the cited rasterized benchmark averages, but the size depends on the test suite. The FPS Review tested 14 games at 1440p and reported the RTX 5070 ahead by 5% in its native rasterized average and 6% with upscaling. TechSpot’s separate 15-game rasterized average put the RX 9070 GRE about 5% behind at 1440p and 6% behind at 4K. These are results from each outlet’s test conditions, not guarantees for every game or PC.
The comparisons use different game suites and test setups, so their figures should not be merged into a single benchmark. Read the FPS Review’s 14-game comparison and TechSpot’s review and averages as separate results.
Why your games may change the result
Averages can hide large game-to-game swings. In TechSpot’s 1440p results, the RX 9070 GRE led the RTX 5070 by about 12% in Cities: Skylines II and 14% in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. In the same outlet’s tests, it trailed by about 15% in Delta Force and 19% in Space Marine 2.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If you mainly play a few specific titles, look for results for those games at the resolution and settings you intend to use. A small aggregate advantage for the RTX 5070 may matter less than a reversal in your regular game.
Which GPU is better for ray tracing?
The RTX 5070 has the clearer advantage in TechSpot’s ray tracing results: across its seven-game average, it led the RX 9070 GRE by 10% at 1440p and 14% at 4K. That is an outlet-specific test-suite average, and individual games can differ, but it makes the RTX 5070 the stronger choice if ray tracing performance is a priority.

Is the RTX 5070 worth paying more for?
It depends on the actual price difference where you live. Both cards had a reported US launch MSRP of $549. In The FPS Review’s June 2026 price snapshot, the RX 9070 GRE was listed at $549, while RTX 5070 listings started at $609 and were mostly around $630 or higher. Those are historical US listing prices, not current October 2026 prices or a guide to prices in other regions.
Check live local listings and compare the price premium with the performance in your games. A modest rasterized average lead may not justify a substantial premium if you do not use ray tracing or if the GRE performs better in your preferred titles. The RTX 5070’s larger ray tracing average lead may make the premium more worthwhile for a player who values that workload.
