Extra and Premium both include Sony’s rotating Game Catalog, so Premium is worth paying more for only if you also want particular RPGs in its Classics Catalog, or expect to use its game trials or cloud streaming. Check the catalogues available in your region before subscribing: the best tier depends on whether they contain games you actually plan to play.
What do Extra and Premium include for RPG players?
Both tiers include the Game Catalog, where you can browse the same category of rotating games. Sony’s US plan comparison also lists Ubisoft+ Classics on both tiers. The shared membership benefits include monthly games, online multiplayer, cloud storage, Share Play, discounts, and exclusive content.
Premium includes everything in Extra, plus the Classics Catalog, Game Trials, cloud streaming, and the Sony Pictures Catalog. The official US plan comparison lists these benefits; availability and catalogue contents can vary by country.
What does Premium add over Extra?
The Classics Catalog
Premium’s Classics Catalog is the clearest reason for an RPG player to consider upgrading. Use PlayStation’s game finder to filter for RPGs and view Game Catalog and Classics Catalog titles separately. The selection is regional and can change, so check for specific games rather than assuming a particular classic RPG is included.

Game trials
Premium provides limited-time trials for select games. A trial may help you decide whether a game suits you before committing, but it is useful only if the titles you want to try are offered in your region.
Cloud streaming
Cloud streaming can let you play eligible catalogue games without downloading them. PlayStation’s US plan page states a minimum internet speed of 5 Mbps, or 15 Mbps for 1080p streaming. Some content and territories are excluded, so confirm local availability and requirements on PlayStation’s pages before relying on the feature.

When PlayStation’s US pricing page was accessed in 2026, it displayed the following prices. These are US prices, not a universal price list; check the current offers for your country and account before choosing.

Which tier has the RPGs you want to play?
Start with the games, not the tier label. Search your local Game Catalog for the RPGs on your backlog: Extra and Premium both include that catalog. Then check the Classics Catalog for specific older RPGs that would justify Premium. The game finder offers RPG filtering and separate catalogue views, but availability can differ by country and change over time.
- List the RPGs you intend to play. Separate current-generation or newer games from classic titles, and distinguish games you want to play now from titles you might try someday.
- Search your region’s Game Catalog. This is included with both Extra and Premium. If it covers your plans, Premium does not add access to that shared catalog.
- Check Premium’s extras individually. Look for your desired RPGs in the Classics Catalog and see whether any available trials or cloud-streaming options matter to you.
- Compare the local price difference with those benefits. Pay more for Premium only if the additional features are worth the difference to you.
- Recheck before subscribing. PlayStation says new titles are added regularly, and catalogue contents and eligibility can change. Its plan page also says PS4 games will be added only intermittently from January 2026.
When is Extra the better choice?
Choose Extra if the RPGs you want are in the shared Game Catalog and you do not need Premium’s Classics Catalog, trials, or cloud streaming. That is the practical default for players focused on a current backlog: the higher tier adds features, but it does not make the shared Game Catalog a different RPG library.

When is Premium worth it?
Premium can make sense if you have confirmed that its Classics Catalog includes RPGs you want, or you will make regular use of trials or cloud streaming. Consider the cost over the billing term you expect to keep, and verify that the relevant games and features are available in your territory. If those extras are merely nice to have, Extra avoids paying for benefits you may not use.
