The useful question is what the tool is doing, what the developer still decides, and how the result is checked.
What “Cursor writes all my code” can mean
Writing code is only one part of building software. An AI tool may produce lines of code while a developer still defines the task, chooses the design, resolves trade-offs, reviews the changes, runs tests, and accepts responsibility for what ships. Counting generated lines alone cannot establish that a change is correct, maintainable, or faster to deliver.
The phrase is also not verified as a measured account from a particular Cursor user. It is best read as a provocative description of an AI-heavy workflow, not evidence that a developer has stopped making technical decisions.
What Cursor says its agents can do
Cursor describes its product as an AI coding agent for building software, with agents that can work autonomously and in parallel and interfaces that include tools such as the terminal and GitHub. Those are features as presented by the vendor; they do not establish that an agent will produce correct or production-ready code for every task. Cursor’s product page

In practice, delegation is a choice about how much work to hand over. A developer might ask an agent to draft boilerplate or tackle a larger change, then inspect the proposed edits and verify behavior. The broader the task and the more systems it touches, the more important it is to understand the proposed changes rather than accept them on the strength of a successful-looking response.
Which work to delegate—and which decisions to keep
Cory Gwin’s LinkedIn commentary frames AI coding as several modes rather than one default: a small change may be quicker to make directly, while boilerplate can be a useful task for an agent. That is practitioner commentary, not a controlled comparison, but it points to a practical way to decide when to delegate.

This is a decision framework, not a claim that one mode has been shown to improve speed or quality. The right choice depends on task clarity, the cost of reviewing the result, and whether the developer can explain and maintain what changed.
A practical review loop for AI-generated changes
- Define the outcome. State what should change, what must remain unchanged, and any relevant constraints before asking for code.
- Inspect the proposed changes. Read the diff for unexpected files, unnecessary complexity, and changes that do not match the request.
- Verify behavior. Run the relevant tests and, where appropriate, exercise the affected feature. A generated answer is not itself a test result.
- Make the ownership decision. Accept, revise, or reject the work based on whether you understand its behavior and are willing to maintain it.
These checks do not guarantee defect-free software. They make the developer’s review and acceptance part of the workflow instead of treating code generation as the finish line.

What the available poll does—and does not—show
A MathWorks MATLAB Central community poll displayed 21% for the response “AI writes all my code now,” with 123 votes, and listed recent activity in July 2026. The poll asked about using AI tools to help write MATLAB code; it was self-selected and does not represent developers generally or Cursor users specifically. Whether a paid plan makes sense depends on how often you use Cursor and whether its included usage covers your work. The presence of a subscription does not establish that the tool will save time or make a particular project more successful.
