For a useful Tekken 8 beginner setup, start in Practice: learn a few moves from the command list, use combo challenges to spot input errors, then save and repeat situations that keep beating you. Use My Replays & Tips to find one mistake from a real match and turn it into a short drill. Input-display and frame-data labels can vary by version and platform, so confirm the controls in your current build rather than relying on an old menu route.
What to set up first in Tekken 8 Practice
Practice mode is designed for learning character moves, combos, punishment, and specific situations through repetition. Bandai Namco’s official Practice mode description also notes command-list demonstrations with video and audio timing cues.
Learn a small set of useful moves
Open your character’s command list and choose a few moves to learn rather than trying to memorize the whole list. Watch the demonstration and listen for the timing cue, then perform the move yourself. This gives you a concrete starting point for checking whether your inputs produce the action you intended.
Use combo challenges to find the failing input
Work on one manageable combo at a time. When a challenge fails, identify the point where your character stops following the sequence: the cause may be an omitted direction, a button entered too early or late, or a move that did not connect as expected. Repeat from that point rather than changing several inputs at once.

Add punishment drills after basic blocking
Punishment practice is for learning which attack you can use after blocking a particular opponent move. The practice description frames this as repeating an attack that is guaranteed after that move is blocked. First become comfortable blocking and recognizing the situation; then drill the response until you can perform it reliably.
Save the situation that needs repetition
When one section is holding you back, save that situation and rehearse it directly instead of restarting a longer sequence. The official Practice description gives a combo segment, a wall situation, and a low-parry situation as examples. This keeps the drill focused on the moment you need to improve.

How to use input display and frame data
An input display can help you compare the buttons and directions you pressed with the move that appeared on screen. Frame data can help explain why an interaction ended as it did, such as whether a response was fast enough after a block. Treat both as diagnostic aids: the useful question is not just what the display says, but whether your intended input produced the expected move and outcome.
The official materials available for this guide do not establish the exact current menu path or label for input history or detailed frame-data display in version 3.02.01. Menu wording and availability can differ by platform and update, so check the current in-game Practice and replay controls rather than following an unverified route. If the game displays frame information, use it to form a hypothesis about an interaction, then reproduce the situation and verify the result in the current build.

Choose feedback without cluttering the screen
Input and status indicators can make practice easier to diagnose, while a cleaner display may be preferable when you want to focus on movement or play without overlays. Choose based on the task: turn feedback on while isolating an execution error, and remove nonessential indicators if they distract from the match. No single display setup is best for every player or drill.
Turn a replay into a repeatable drill
My Replays & Tips reviews your own match and can offer suggestions about combos, guaranteed counterattacks, throws, and high attacks that can be crouched. Bandai Namco describes it as a mode for replaying a battle and getting advice on improvement. Its retry feature lets you rehearse a short section of gameplay for 10 seconds. - Review a match: Open My Replays & Tips and look for a repeated situation, not every possible mistake.
- Pick one response to practice: Choose a single suggestion, such as responding to a punishable move or crouching a high attack.
- Retry the relevant section: Use the replay retry feature to rehearse the short segment, then focus on the specific input or decision that changes the outcome.
- Carry it into Practice: If you need more repetition than the replay segment provides, recreate or save the relevant situation in Practice when possible.
This approach separates two useful kinds of work: Practice gives you controlled repetition, while replay review helps you identify which real-match habit deserves attention.

Do not assume an older guide’s menu path or display description still matches your game. Bandai Namco’s version 2.00 notes, published as patch details, added in-battle status indicators and more dummy behavior choices, and described practice actions after ukemi. Check current menus for their availability and wording in your build; the notes are not proof that every option remains in the same place. Version 2.00 patch notes.

The same version 2.00 notes say V-Sync can be switched off on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S under Options > Graphics Settings > V-Sync. Bandai Namco says this slightly improves response time between key input and character action, with minor screen tearing possible. This is a dated, platform-specific graphics option—not a universal beginner recommendation, and not a Practice-only setting.
Move descriptions can also be affected by updates. Bandai Namco’s version 3.01.01 notes, dated May 28, 2026, warned that behavior fixes and move adjustments were causing a mismatch between some Practice command-list descriptions and actual move properties, and said a fix was scheduled for the next update. The official site lists a later version 3.02.01 update dated August 19, 2026, so the 3.01.01 warning alone does not establish that the mismatch persists. Verify move behavior in your current version rather than treating that old warning as current.
A practical beginner routine
- Choose a character and learn a few moves from the command list, using the demo and timing cues.
- Practice one combo challenge and isolate the input where it fails.
- Once blocking feels comfortable, drill an attack that is guaranteed after a specific move is blocked.
- Save one difficult combo segment or combat situation and repeat it directly.
- Review a replay, select one recurring mistake, and use retry or Practice to work on that response.
