Its portfolio includes servers, storage, networking, hybrid-cloud offerings, support, and financing. HPE earns revenue from equipment and software sales, services, subscriptions and usage-based arrangements, and customer financing. It is separate from HP Inc., the company associated more closely with personal computers and printers.
What does Hewlett Packard Enterprise do?
HPE supplies the systems organizations use to process workloads, store and move data, and operate technology across data centers, cloud environments, colocation facilities, and the network edge. Its FY2025 annual report describes a portfolio spanning servers, hybrid cloud and storage, networking, financial services, and professional and advisory services. HPE FY2025 Form 10-K
Servers and computing
HPE sells enterprise servers, including its ProLiant line, as well as systems for high-performance computing and other workloads. Servers are the machines that run applications and process information for organizations. In FY2025, server products were HPE’s largest reported revenue category.
Storage and hybrid cloud
HPE’s hybrid-cloud portfolio includes storage systems, private-cloud infrastructure, software, and managed or self-managed options. These offerings support organizations that need to operate workloads across their own facilities and cloud environments.

GreenLake
HPE GreenLake is the company’s umbrella platform and offer family for hybrid and consumption-based infrastructure experiences. HPE’s FY2025 Form 10-K says, “The HPE GreenLake cloud is designed to deliver a seamless hybrid experience with true pay-per-use consumption and automated scalability.” That is HPE’s description of its own offering, not an independent assessment.

How does HPE make money?
HPE combines sales of technology products with software, services, subscription and consumption arrangements, and financing. Customers can acquire some products upfront or choose ongoing or usage-based options; the existence of these options does not mean all HPE revenue is recurring. HPE’s annual report and investor materials describe these sources of revenue. HPE FY2025 Form 10-K HPE quarterly results
Equipment sales
HPE sells servers, storage systems, and networking equipment. Hardware remains a major part of its business: server products alone accounted for more than half of consolidated revenue in FY2025, according to HPE’s reported product-category disclosure.
Rank #3
Software, support, and services
HPE sells software, licenses, maintenance, technical support, training, and professional services related to its infrastructure and networking portfolio. Some of these are bundled with equipment; others are sold separately or through subscription arrangements.
Subscriptions and consumption-based offers
GreenLake and other HPE offers provide alternatives to buying and managing all infrastructure as a conventional upfront purchase. Depending on the offer, customers may pay by subscription or according to consumption. HPE also continues to sell traditional capital-expenditure and license-based options, so the available model depends on the product and arrangement.
Rank #4
Financing and leasing
HPE Financial Services offers leasing, financing, IT consumption and utility programs, and asset management. It supports customers acquiring HPE and third-party hardware, software, and services, including through flexible-consumption arrangements. HPE describes these services in its FY2025 Form 10-K.
Partner sales and services
HPE also reaches customers through partners that resell its products and services or build and deliver services around HPE technology. HPE Partner Ready Vantage has Build, Sell, and Service tracks, and HPE describes partner engagement with its portfolio and GreenLake. This partner ecosystem is a route to market; it does not establish that HPE offers a public affiliate commission. HPE Partner Ready Vantage HPE announcement on Partner Ready Vantage

How large is HPE, and which revenue figures are current?
HPE reported $34.296 billion in consolidated net revenue for FY2025. Its fiscal year ends October 31. The segment figures below use HPE’s FY2025 reporting structure:
| FY2025 segment | Revenue |
|---|---|
| Server | $17.639 billion |
| Networking | $6.837 billion |
| Hybrid Cloud | $5.544 billion |
| Financial Services | $3.507 billion |
HPE reorganized its reporting at the beginning of FY2026. It combined Server, Hybrid Cloud, and Financial Services into Cloud & AI, and moved Telco and Instant On out of Networking into Corporate Investments and Other. Consequently, FY2025 and FY2026 segment names are not directly comparable one-to-one.
Under the new structure, HPE reported $32.192 billion in total segment revenue for the first nine months of FY2026, through July 31, 2026: Cloud & AI contributed $23.083 billion, Networking $8.289 billion, and Corporate Investments and Other $820 million. Consolidated net revenue for the third quarter ended July 31, 2026, was $12.213 billion. These company-reported figures are from HPE’s FY2026 quarterly results; newer results may change the latest comparison.
What should customers consider about HPE’s business models?
HPE offers different ways to acquire and operate infrastructure, but company-wide figures cannot show which one will suit or cost less for a particular organization. The practical comparison depends on the workload, utilization, contract length, financing terms, and included service scope.
- Upfront purchase or ongoing expense: Compare capital expenditure with subscription or consumption arrangements.
- Self-managed or managed: Determine whether the organization wants to operate the infrastructure itself or use a managed service.
- Owned or usage-based: Consider whether licensed or owned equipment fits better than paying according to use.
HPE’s portfolio spans these approaches; there is no basis here to claim that one is universally cheaper or better.
