How does an AI travel planner use my data, and what should I check before I share it? It may use details you type into a prompt, information in a profile or connected account, device or usage signals, and information from booking or partner services. Which inputs are used, who receives them, how long they are kept, and whether they may help improve AI models depend on the specific service. Check its privacy notice and controls before sharing sensitive details; a company’s notice describes its stated practices, not an independent audit.

What data can an AI travel planner use?

A request for a trip might include a destination, dates, budget, party size, interests, or accessibility needs. A service can use those details to suggest destinations, itineraries, lodging, activities, or answers in a chat. It may also use information beyond the prompt—but not every service collects every category.

  • Information you enter: prompts, trip constraints, preferences, and details about people travelling with you.
  • Profile and account information: saved preferences or information from an email or calendar account, if you connect one.
  • Device or usage signals: information associated with a device or how you use a service. Whether this includes location, and whether it is optional, depends on the provider.
  • Booking and partner information: data associated with suppliers, bookings, sister brands, or a partner website where the planner is embedded.

The categories are not interchangeable: a provider may receive a prompt without having access to your email, while an account connection or booking can introduce additional information flows. Read the particular service’s notice for the product and experience you are using.

Where does the information go?

A travel service may send prompt text or trip context to an external AI processor to generate a response. It may also pass information to booking suppliers, analytics or other service providers, related brands, or connected-account services. A booking can involve recipients beyond the assistant that produced the recommendation.

For example, Lola’s notice, revised September 16, 2026, says it uses direct input, connected accounts such as email and calendar, and automated device and sister-brand data to power chat recommendations and a personalized profile. It says information may be shared with service providers, Booking Holdings brands, and trusted AI platforms. Those are Lola’s disclosures about its own service, not a description of every travel planner. Read Lola’s privacy notice.

Mindtrip describes an AI travel planning, recommendation, and booking service, and says its notice also applies to embedded partner solutions. Does my travel chat go to another AI company?

It can. Check whether the service names an AI model provider, what prompt or trip context is sent, and what terms govern the provider’s retention and use of that information. Also check for other recipients: a model provider is only one possible destination. The available service notices do not establish a single retention period or model-training rule that applies across travel planners.

Trippa’s notice, effective September 22, 2026, says chat text is transmitted for AI inference and saved in chat history. It states that its endpoint requires zero data retention and that private trip content is not used to train its own models. These are the company’s stated positions, not independently verified implementation. Read Trippa’s privacy notice.

Can browsing history or location affect the travel offers I see?

They may affect recommendations or offers if a service collects and uses those signals, but the answer is provider-specific. The OECD’s December 2024 report on AI and tourism describes opacity in tourism recommendation systems and notes that booking systems may adjust prices using browsing history, location, or device information. That sector-level discussion does not establish that a particular AI assistant uses those signals or changes an individual traveller’s price.

The OECD writes: “The opaque nature of AI systems reduces transparency and accountability, making it hard for users to understand or challenge AI decisions.” Read the OECD report, Artificial Intelligence and tourism. Treat personalization and pricing as separate questions: check whether recommendations are sponsored or shaped by commercial relationships, review any pricing disclosures, and compare the fare or offer independently.

What to check before sharing information

  1. List the inputs. Look for prompts, trip context, profile fields, location, device information, and connected accounts. Check which fields are optional and whether email or calendar access can be disconnected.
  2. Identify every recipient. Find the named AI processor and check what information it receives. Look separately for booking suppliers, sister brands, analytics vendors, marketing providers, and other service providers. Check what changes when you make a booking.
  3. Read retention and model-improvement terms. Look for how long prompts and trip histories are retained, whether they are used to train or improve models, and whether the terms differ for the travel service and its AI processor.
  4. Find the data controls. Check how to delete a chat or trip, correct a profile, export data, and opt out of model improvement. Look for whether deletion also applies to information shared with service providers.
  5. Check the experience you are using. If the planner is embedded on another company’s website, find out which company controls the information and which privacy notice applies.
  6. Review ranking and price disclosures. Check for sponsored recommendations or commercial relationships, then compare prices separately. A personalized suggestion is not proof that the price was personalized.

What not to put in an ordinary travel chat

Avoid entering payment card numbers, passwords, booking codes, door codes, Wi-Fi passwords, or account credentials into a general-purpose travel prompt. Be cautious with passport numbers and another traveller’s personal details, too; share them only if the service explains why they are needed and provides an appropriate protected workflow.
