If your iPhone still says storage is full after you delete apps, check what is actually using space before removing anything else. Photos, message attachments, downloaded videos, files, and app data can take up storage too. Check what is using your iPhone storage
- Open Settings > General > iPhone Storage. Note the available space, the category breakdown, any recommendations, and the largest app entries. Labels and recommendations can vary by iOS version and region. [Apple Support: iPhone and iPad storage]
- Tap a large app entry. Review the space attributed to the app and its data, and check for app-specific options. What you can manage varies by app.
- Recheck the screen after making a change. Storage reporting can include cached or temporary data, and values may differ across views. A deleted item does not necessarily translate immediately into a predictable amount of free space. [Apple Support: iPhone and iPad storage]
The “Apps” category may include more than app binaries: it can also include app content, files saved in “On My iPhone,” and Safari downloads. The category breakdown is therefore a better guide than assuming the apps you removed were the only issue. [Apple Support: iPhone and iPad storage]
Know the difference between offloading and deleting
Offloading removes an app but preserves its documents and data. Apple Support describes it this way: “Offload the app, which frees up storage used by the app, but keeps its documents and data.” Deleting an app removes the app and its related data. Before deleting an app, make sure you understand whether its data is important and whether you can recover it. Deleting an app does not remove unrelated items such as photos or files stored elsewhere on the iPhone.

Review photos, messages, downloads, and files
If apps are not the main storage users, look at the content categories shown in iPhone Storage. Apple identifies photos, messages and attachments, downloaded videos, Files documents, media, locally downloaded iCloud Drive files, and system categories as possible storage uses. - Photos and videos: Review large or unwanted items and remove only what you no longer need.
- Messages: Check whether conversations contain large attachments you can safely remove.
- Downloaded videos and other media: Remove offline downloads you no longer need, using the relevant app’s controls.
- Files: Review documents and downloads, including items saved in “On My iPhone” and locally downloaded iCloud Drive files.
Check whether an item is stored locally and whether you need it before deleting it. The aim is to free space from the category that is actually large, not to remove content indiscriminately.

If photos and videos take up the most space
If your photo and video collection is the main storage user, Apple documents Optimize iPhone Storage as an option with iCloud Photos. It keeps the full-resolution collection in iCloud while using smaller, space-saving versions on the iPhone when needed. This depends on having iCloud Photos set up and being comfortable with cloud syncing; it is optional, not a universal requirement. [Apple Support: Manage your photo and video storage]
Consider this only after checking that iCloud Photos fits your setup and needs. It is a way to reduce local photo storage, not a fix for space used by messages, downloads, or other categories.

Use a computer if the iPhone view is unclear
A computer is an optional way to inspect device storage. Apple documents Finder on a Mac, Apple Devices on a PC, and iTunes for certain older setups.
