Compare the views you actually use, not just megapixels
A camera system is more than its highest-resolution sensor. Start by matching each camera to the scenes you shoot: the main camera for everyday framing, ultrawide for expansive or tight-space scenes, and telephoto cameras for portraits and distant subjects.

What changed from the S24 Ultra to the S25 Ultra?
The most clearly documented camera hardware change is the ultrawide: Samsung says the S25 Ultra moved from the S24 Ultra’s 12 MP ultrawide sensor to a 50 MP sensor (Samsung Newsroom). That makes the S25 generation more compelling on paper for people who often shoot wide scenes, but megapixel count alone cannot establish how much sharper a particular photo will look. Lens quality, image processing, light, and how you view or crop the photo also matter.
A complete S24-to-S26 camera specification comparison and controlled side-by-side results are not established by the cited sources. Avoid assuming unverified S24 specifications or treating the ultrawide change as proof that one model wins every type of photo.

Is the S26 Ultra better in low light?
Samsung says the S26 Ultra’s wider apertures on its wide and telephoto cameras help produce brighter, less noisy photos and video in low light (Samsung US comparison). This is a manufacturer explanation of the hardware’s intended benefit, not a guarantee that every night scene will look substantially better. Results also depend on the subject, movement, lighting, and camera processing.
TechRadar’s editorial comparison describes the S26 Ultra’s low-light and longer-zoom improvements as modest (TechRadar comparison). That assessment is not a standardized benchmark across all scenes. If night photos or indoor video matter to you, compare real samples of the scenes you shoot rather than relying on an aperture claim or a single reviewer’s judgment.

How much zoom do you need?
The S25 Ultra gives you dedicated 3x and 5x optical telephoto cameras, which can be more useful for portraits and distant subjects than relying on a high digital-zoom number alone. Samsung describes the S26 Ultra as offering up to 10x optical-quality zoom and up to 100x digital zoom. Samsung also warns that image quality may deteriorate beyond 10x, where digital zoom and Super Resolution are involved (Samsung US comparison).
- If you mostly photograph people nearby, test the main and portrait-friendly telephoto views you use most.
- If you shoot wildlife, sports, or stage performances, inspect samples at your actual zoom levels. A maximum zoom figure does not tell you how much detail will survive.
- If you rarely crop or zoom far, prioritize the camera views and lighting performance you use every day over an extreme zoom ceiling.
Do video and creative features matter more than photo resolution?
They may if you edit footage. Samsung’s S25 Ultra materials list 10-bit HDR recording, Galaxy Log, and Expert RAW Virtual Aperture (Samsung specifications; Samsung Newsroom). Samsung describes 10-bit HDR as offering four times richer color expression than 8-bit; treat that as Samsung’s feature description, not an independent measure of finished-video quality.

If you shoot for editing or color grading, check that the recording modes, file workflow, and editing tools available on the specific model and regional software suit your process. The cited materials do not establish feature-by-feature parity between the S25 Ultra and S26 Ultra, so confirm current model details before choosing on that basis.

- Frequent low-light photos or video: The S26 Ultra is the newer option with Samsung’s stated aperture improvements. Look for samples in comparable conditions before deciding whether the difference matters to you.
- Landscapes, architecture, interiors, or groups: The S25 Ultra’s 50 MP ultrawide is a notable on-paper step up from the S24 Ultra’s 12 MP ultrawide.
- Portraits and everyday zoom: Compare the dedicated 3x and 5x views, focusing on framing and the results you actually prefer.
- Distant subjects: Judge sample photos at your typical zoom range. The S26 Ultra’s 100x digital zoom is not a promise of useful detail at that level.
- Video creation: Check the exact recording modes and editing workflow you need, rather than choosing by still-photo megapixels alone.
- Considering an upgrade: Compare current local prices and the camera features you would gain. A camera refinement may not justify a price premium if it does not address a real need in your photography.
