The series mixes numbered games, handheld spin-offs and story-only presentations, so the order in which collections list their games is not the order you should play them.
The play order
This is the first-playthrough sequence from a MeriStation guide updated July 4, 2024. It is an editorial recommendation. Neither Square Enix nor series director Tetsuya Nomura has published a prescribed play order. The guide prefers release order because rearranging the story into in-universe chronology can reveal important events too early.
- Kingdom Hearts (Final Mix in the current compilation)
- Kingdom Hearts: Re:Chain of Memories
- Kingdom Hearts II
- Kingdom Hearts Re:coded
- Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days
- Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep
- Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance
- Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep –A fragmentary passage–
- Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover
- Kingdom Hearts III (including the Re Mind add-on)
Note that steps 4 and 5 are the guide’s choice. Re:coded comes before 358/2 Days, although 358/2 Days originally launched earlier. The 1.5+2.5 collection also presents the two in a different order, so follow this list rather than the menu.

| Collection | Contents |
|---|---|
| KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX | Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, Re:Chain of Memories, 358/2 Days (story scenes), Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, Birth by Sleep Final Mix, Re:coded (story scenes) |
| KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue | Dream Drop Distance HD, 0.2 Birth by Sleep –A fragmentary passage–, χ Back Cover |
| KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind | Kingdom Hearts III and the Re Mind add-on |
Since 358/2 Days and Re:coded appear as story scenes in 1.5+2.5, you are watching those entries rather than playing them in full. In practice you will move back and forth inside the first collection: games 1 to 3, then Re:coded and 358/2 Days, then Birth by Sleep. Then you move to 2.8 and finish with Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind.
Platforms and buying
- Square Enix’s Japanese page for the new collection lists Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Microsoft Store on Windows and Steam. The individual compilation pages also list Epic Games Store.
- The page gives a release date of October 8, 2026 and links to Amazon.co.jp. This is a Japanese-region reference, so check availability, edition and stock in your own country’s store.
- The packaged version requires an internet connection to download additional data. Don’t assume the disc or cartridge is fully playable offline.
When comparing editions, check platform compatibility, physical versus digital, which volumes are included, whether Re Mind is included, and whether the download requirement suits you.
