Yes—but they suit different players. Resident Evil 5 is the more straightforward pick for a focused, action-led campaign with a friend. Resident Evil 6 is a bigger, more varied spectacle that can be rewarding in co-op if you enjoy its excesses and can tolerate uneven pacing and frequent quick-time events. Neither is the safest choice if you are looking for slow-burn survival horror.

What makes Resident Evil 5 worth playing?
RE5 is a good choice if you want an action-forward campaign that feels more contained than RE6, especially if you have someone to play with. The U.S. PlayStation listing identifies the PS4 edition as supporting single-player and co-op, with one to two local players and up to four online players; online play requires PS Plus. It also lists the Lost in Nightmares and Desperate Escape story expansions and additional modes as included content. Solo play is supported, but co-op is a major part of the game’s appeal. If you expect a slower, more unnerving survival-horror experience, its action emphasis may not be what you want.
What makes Resident Evil 6 worth playing?
RE6 is the more ambitious and divisive option: consider it if you and a friend want several campaigns’ worth of high-energy action and can enjoy a deliberately excessive tone. Capcom’s announcement describes two-player split-screen or online co-op throughout each campaign, with additional player-controlled allies in some online battles. A March 2026 PC Gamer revisit by contributor Robert Zak is positive about playing RE6 with a friend but candid about its chaotic set pieces, inconsistent quick-time events, and outsized action tone. Zak called it “one of disappointingly few full-blooded campaigns you can play splitscreen on PC.” That is one critic’s assessment, not a measure of universal opinion; it is useful context if you are weighing the game’s co-op appeal against its rough edges. Both support solo play, so a co-op partner is not an absolute requirement. Still, if you are choosing mainly for solo play, consider whether the action and campaign style appeals to you: co-op is a substantial part of the recommendation for both, and especially central to RE6’s appeal. For RE5, Steam Support’s PC listing also identifies single-player as a feature.

- Pick RE5 if you want a more straightforward action campaign and co-op with a friend.
- Pick RE6 if you want a broader, more bombastic co-op experience and are willing to accept tonal swings, QTEs, and uneven pacing.
- Pick neither as your first choice if what you chiefly want is slow-burn survival horror.
