To use a headset for calls in the 3CX Windows Softphone, switch the app to Softphone mode, then select the headset separately for Microphone and Speaker in Audio Options. Choose a Ringing device separately if you want call alerts to play somewhere else. Vendor headset integration is optional and depends on the headset model.
Install and provision the 3CX Windows app
Use the installation and sign-in method provided by your organization. 3CX’s Windows Softphone manual describes downloading the app from the Microsoft Store and signing in with the organization’s 3CX URL and account details. It also describes installing and provisioning through the Web Client. If your organization manages deployment, follow its administrator’s process. See the 3CX Windows Softphone App manual.
Switch the app to Softphone mode
The Windows client can work in Softphone mode or CTI mode. Softphone mode places and receives calls through the computer; CTI mode controls a desk phone. If you want calls to use your PC-connected headset, use the phone selector to choose Softphone. The 3CX Windows client guide explains the modes and phone selector.
Select the microphone, speaker, and ringing device
- Open Audio Options in the Windows app.
- In Microphone, select the microphone you want to use for calls. For a headset, choose its microphone entry.
- In Speaker, select where you want to hear the other caller. Choose the headset’s speaker entry if you want call audio in the headset.
- Check Ringing separately. You can route incoming-call alerts to the headset or choose another connected speaker so alerts remain audible when you are not wearing it.
Microphone and Speaker are separate settings: selecting the headset for one does not select it for the other. 3CX’s app troubleshooting guidance covers checking these audio-device choices.

Do you need headset integration?
Basic call audio can be set by choosing the microphone and speaker devices. Vendor integration is an additional option for compatible headsets; it can enable headset controls such as answering or ending a call, changing volume, or muting, depending on the model.
Jabra
For a Jabra headset, open Settings > Audio/Video > Headset integration, select Jabra, connect the headset, and confirm that the app shows Headset ready. Then assign the Jabra device as both the microphone and speaker in Audio Options. Ringing may use a different device. The 3CX Jabra guide was last updated 4 June 2026: Configuring Jabra Headsets.

Yealink
3CX’s Yealink integration guidance says to enable the Headset option and select the connected headset. Its supported-model list, published 7 August 2024, includes UH34, UH36, UH37, UH38, WH62, WH63, WH66, WH67, BH70, BH71, BH72, BH72+BT51, BH76, and CPX00/MP50. Compatibility can depend on the model and release, so check current vendor guidance for the exact headset before buying or configuring it. See 3CX’s Windows Softphone release guidance.
If you cannot hear calls or your microphone does not work
- Calls are using a desk phone: check the phone selector and choose Softphone if you want calls on the computer.
- You hear the caller but they cannot hear you: reopen Audio Options and check the Microphone selection.
- Your microphone works but you cannot hear the caller: check the Speaker selection separately.
- Call alerts are missing or coming from the wrong place: check the Ringing device, which is separate from call audio.
- Jabra integration is enabled: confirm it reports “Headset ready” and that the Jabra device is selected for both microphone and speaker.
If these checks do not resolve the issue, contact your organization’s 3CX administrator. 3CX’s end-user troubleshooting article advises against changing advanced settings without administrator guidance; it does not establish one universal fix for every Windows audio-routing problem.

Choosing a headset
A headset with a microphone is useful if you do not already have suitable hardware, but the 3CX setup instructions do not establish that a particular headset is required or compare sound quality. Before buying, check the exact model’s compatibility, connector, and any integration features you need. Jabra and Yealink setup details are available in the linked 3CX guides.
