Opening a link alone does not prove that your account or device was compromised. What to do next depends on whether you entered a password or payment details, or downloaded a file.
First steps after clicking the link
- Close the page. Don’t click anything else on it, reply to the message, or provide information.
- Verify through ASOS directly. Open the official ASOS app or type its known website address yourself, then use Customer Care if you need help. Don’t use the notification’s link or rely on its sender name or appearance to establish that it is genuine.
- Decide what you shared or downloaded. Follow the relevant steps below if you entered a password or payment details, or if a file downloaded.

What ASOS says about the notification incident
In its incident update, ASOS said some customers received an unauthorised push notification and that it was investigating unauthorised activity involving third-party platforms it uses to communicate with customers. ASOS said it had restricted access to the notification platforms and that its website and app remained available.
ASOS said basic personal information, including names and contact details, may have been accessed. Based on what it knew at the time, it did not believe payment-card information or account passwords had been impacted. The NCSC repeated ASOS’s assessment in an alert published on 6 October 2026. This is a time-bound update, not a guarantee about later findings: check ASOS’s incident information for the latest advice.

At the time of that update, ASOS said: “We are not currently asking customers to change their ASOS account password or take any other action.” If you entered your password on the suspicious page, however, take the protective steps below rather than treating that general update as a reason to leave exposed credentials unchanged.
If you only opened the link
A click by itself does not establish that your device is infected or your account accessed. Close the page and don’t enter information or download anything from it. If you did not share credentials or payment details and no file downloaded, the immediate priority is to stop interacting and verify any account concern through ASOS’s official app or website.

If you entered a password or other personal information
ASOS password
If you typed your ASOS password into the page, go to ASOS by opening its app or entering its website address yourself and change the password there. Review account activity for anything you do not recognize. If you reused that password on other sites, change it on those accounts too. The NCSC recommends replacing vulnerable passwords with strong, separate passwords; don’t use a password from a suspicious page again.
Other personal details
If you gave other personal information, be alert for follow-up messages that use those details to sound credible. The NCSC advises watching for suspicious messages after an incident. If you are in the United States and also gave a scammer Social Security, credit-card, or bank details, the FTC directs people to IdentityTheft.gov for a recovery plan.

If you entered payment-card details
Contact your card issuer using the phone number on the card or the issuer’s official app or website. Review recent transactions and follow the issuer’s instructions. Don’t use a phone number or support link displayed on the suspicious page.
If a file downloaded or you opened one
If you think a file may have downloaded, update your existing security software and run a scan. The FTC makes this advice conditional on a possible harmful download; clicking a link alone is not proof that malware was installed. Avoid opening a suspicious downloaded file while you check it.

Report the message using the route for your country
United Kingdom
- Forward a suspicious text to 7726. GOV.UK says this reports it to your mobile provider.
- Forward a suspicious email to report@phishing.gov.uk, which routes it to the NCSC.
United States
- Forward a suspicious text to SPAM (7726).
- Forward a suspicious email to reportphishing@apwg.org.
- Report the phishing attempt at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
- If you gave a scammer Social Security, credit-card, or bank details, use IdentityTheft.gov for a recovery plan.

ASOS says it contacts customers through an ASOS-branded email address or a verified social media account. If a message still looks suspicious, don’t follow its links: open ASOS directly and contact Customer Care there. A familiar sender name or an ASOS-like notification is not enough to verify a message. Be cautious of later messages that refer to the incident or urge you to act quickly.
