Measure Gemini Enterprise adoption in the app’s Analytics dashboard, then use Cloud Monitoring to track operational performance and Cloud Logging only when you need governed access to detailed activity events. These tools answer different questions: dashboard activity is not proof of business value, and detailed logs can expose sensitive content.
Start by separating seat assignment, user activity, agent engagement, quality signals, and operational health. Then compare those measures over the same reporting period and add workflow outcomes your organization defines.
Where to measure Gemini Enterprise adoption
In Gemini Enterprise, open Analytics and review the Adoption, Usage and Quality, and Agent views. For operational metrics, use Cloud Monitoring; for detailed activity investigations, use Cloud Logging. Google describes Analytics as providing insight into app usage trends, search quality, and end-user engagement. See Google Cloud’s View and export analytics data.
The product page, edition, app location, allowlist status, and enabled configuration can affect the views available to your organization. Verify the options in your own app and with your Google Cloud administrator before building a reporting process around a particular view.

How to measure adoption and seat reach
The Analytics Adoption view documents total users, users calling assistant, answer, or search APIs, daily/weekly/monthly active users, 7-day and 28-day retention, growth and churn rates, and seats purchased and claimed.
These measures do not share the same meaning. Seats purchased and claimed are cumulative since registration, while active-user counts apply to a selected period. A user who calls multiple API methods is counted once in total users. Google’s active-user definition is broad: signing in and making any API call qualifies, including a call triggered by landing on the home page. An active user therefore is not necessarily someone who completed a meaningful task.
For rollout reporting, show the seat-to-activity funnel and add task-relevant engagement measures:
- Seats purchased: the licensed capacity recorded for the app.
- Seats claimed: seats accepted or assigned by users, as represented in the dashboard.
- Active users: users meeting Google’s activity definition during the selected reporting period.
- Task-relevant engagement: users or actions tied to the workflows your organization wants Gemini Enterprise to support.
Label the date range and disclose that the first two stages are cumulative while the active-user stage is period-based. Google defines a weekly active-user week as Monday through Sunday. When using retention, growth, or churn, state the chosen window and compare periods with matching lengths and populations.

How to measure product use and quality
The Usage and Quality view includes search and answer counts, action count, click-through rate per search, successful search and answer rates, and like/dislike feedback counts and reasons. The documented answer count excludes answers generated by an agent, so it is not a complete count of agent-generated answers.
Use these figures to investigate patterns rather than treating any one count or rate as a verdict on quality. Pair them with a locally defined task-completion measure and a review method appropriate to the workflow—for example, checking whether a search led to the needed information or whether an answer was usable. Google’s dashboard definitions do not prescribe a universal outcome measure.
How to measure AI agent usage
The Analytics Agent view documents monthly active agent users, monthly agent chat sessions, monthly total chat sessions, monthly agents used, and monthly agents created. Interpret these numbers with Google’s counting rules in mind.
Active agent users and builder testing
A user counts as active for an agent after an Assistant call in agent, research, or idea forge mode. Calls made by an agent’s creator while previewing or testing in Workflow Builder can count, because they use the same Assistant path. Unsaved drafts without an agent ID are excluded. Session measures also include preview and test sessions.

Sessions and agents used
Google defines an agent session as a user interacting with an agent in the same chat thread on a single day. If the conversation continues in that thread the next day, it counts as a new session. Monthly agents used can occasionally exceed monthly total chat sessions when a short-lived call—such as a cancelled turn or one-shot call—does not produce a persisted session ID.
For a clearer adoption report, separate builder testing from employee activity if your data allows, annotate preview activity and agent lifecycle changes, and show both unique active users and sessions. Compare agents over the same period and population; raw counts can mislead when audience size, exposure, or test activity differs. Google’s documented metrics do not establish a universal agent-adoption target.
How to track agent performance in Cloud Monitoring
Cloud Monitoring complements Analytics by measuring application and agent behavior. Google documents two relevant resource scopes: Gemini Enterprise Engine for app-level traffic and latency, and Gemini Enterprise Agent for individual-agent activity. See Access metrics.
App-level metrics
Engine request-count metrics can be broken down by API method, response code, query type, and model. The total-latency metric includes requests that return an error. Time-to-first-answer is recorded only when an answer token is produced; time-to-first-token is recorded only when a token is streamed. These conditions matter when interpreting latency results alongside failed or incomplete requests.

Agent-level metrics and Observability
Agent resource metrics cover sessions, turns, tool invocations, and latency. The console’s Observability view for supported agents includes overview, tools, latency, and error-rate views. Tool measures include call counts, P95 duration by tool, error rate, and the rate at which no tool is called. Google documents Observability tab availability for Core Assistant, Workflow Builder, and Deep Research agents.
App-scoped metrics are collected without the agent instrumentation toggle. Agent-scoped measures require Enable instrumentation of OpenTelemetry traces and logs at the app level for Core Assistant, or at agent level for the documented employee-made Workflow Builder and Deep Research agents. Metrics Explorer also requires Monitoring Viewer access in addition to the documented Gemini Enterprise roles.

Analytics metrics refresh about every six hours and may take several hours to appear after an app is created. Cloud Monitoring metric data refreshes every minute. These are separate systems with different update cadences, so avoid expecting a dashboard change and a Monitoring chart to update at the same time.
The documented Gemini Enterprise Monitoring series use the discoveryengine.googleapis.com/ prefix and fall under Google Cloud’s “all other Google Cloud metrics” tier, which has a default retention period of six weeks. Older data is automatically deleted under that default. Confirm current retention settings and export needs before relying on Monitoring alone for longer-term trend analysis.

How to use logs without exposing more data than necessary
Usage audit logs can help investigate activity, but they are more detailed than aggregate adoption metrics. Google classifies prompt/query content as sensitive in the documented service paths. With prompt/response logging disabled, text values are elided and other sensitive values omitted. Enabling it logs full prompt and response content, which may include personally identifiable information.
Restrict Cloud Logging access to authorized roles and enable content logging only when your governance policy supports it. For adoption reporting, aggregate metrics are usually the more appropriate starting point; do not enable content capture simply to count users or sessions. Google’s guidance is available in Access Gemini Enterprise usage audit logs with Cloud Logging and Manage observability settings.
Regional availability and user-level detail
The Analytics User Level tab includes user IDs and interactions and requires allowlisting. Google documents search analytics as Public Preview for US and EU multi-region apps, and generally available for global apps. Check the current regional status and your organization’s access before depending on those views.
A practical reporting checklist
For each reporting period, record the context needed to interpret the numbers:
- Date range and timezone, plus the app, location, and edition.
- Seats purchased and claimed, alongside total and task-relevant active users.
- Assistant, search, and answer users, with the broad active-user definition in view.
- Agent active users and sessions by agent, noting whether builder preview/test activity is included.
- Search and answer success rates, feedback, and the locally defined workflow outcome.
- Latency and error measures, including the app or agent scope used.
- Analytics refresh expectations, Monitoring retention settings, and any access or regional limits.
- Any exclusions or instrumentation settings that affect what the report captures.
Usage establishes that people or systems interacted with Gemini Enterprise; it does not by itself establish that work improved. Define outcome measures for the workflow and validate them separately from activity counts.
