It imitates keycap legends—not the characters displayed on the C64 screen—and is available in desktop and webfont formats.
Keyboard legends are not the C64 screen font
The C64 Keyboard project recreates the lettering printed on the computer’s keycaps. That includes labels such as the function-key legends and the extra symbols printed on the fronts of keys. It does not reproduce the C64’s on-screen character set.
If you want screen characters, including PETSCII graphics, look at projects built for that purpose. The Ultimate Commodore Font documents variants such as Pet Me 64 and focuses on Commodore character sets. The C64-fonts repository lists original and custom character-set files and includes guidance for use with VICE.
What C64 Keyboard includes
The project describes a glyph set with uppercase letters, numerals, punctuation, arrows, the pound sign (£), selected accented letters, function-key labels, classic key legends, and all 63 PETSCII graphic front legends. Lowercase text input displays as uppercase, so this is best suited to recreating key labels or making graphics—not ordinary mixed-case prose.

For its reference points, the author says legend identities and assignments follow the Ultimate Commodore 64 Reference, while the shapes’ frame thickness, curves, and print proportions are inferred from a keyboard photograph. Treat it as an informed reconstruction, not an exact tracing or an established official keyboard typeface.
Download and install the font
The project provides TTF and OTF files for desktop use, as well as a webfont and a complete package. The project page lists the available downloads and its installation guidance.

- Download the TTF or OTF file from the C64 Keyboard project.
- Install the font using your operating system’s usual font-install process.
- Open your design or writing application and select C64 Keyboard from its font menu.
- Type or paste the labels you need. Remember that lowercase input renders as uppercase.
Preview and enter PETSCII symbols
To try the special symbols, download and extract the complete package, then open preview.html. Use the special-key or PETSCII buttons in the type tester to insert symbols, then copy the resulting text into an application where C64 Keyboard is selected. The symbols need this font to render correctly.
The project’s key map and encoding guide explain symbol codes and key combinations. In uppercase/graphics mode, its description maps the left legends to Commodore-plus-key and the right legends to Shift-plus-key. Use the preview and map rather than assuming that a symbol’s ordinary keyboard character will produce the intended glyph.

Check the license for the font you plan to use
Do not assume that terms for one Commodore-themed font apply to another. The repository overview for C64 Keyboard does not establish its license terms, so check the project’s own current license before commercial use or redistribution.
For comparison, the Style64 license applies to its named C64 User, C64 User Mono, C64 Pro, C64 Pro Mono, and C64 Elite Mono typefaces. Its restrictions and permitted uses concern those specific fonts; they are not a general license for Commodore-inspired fonts.
