The right fix depends on the game, platform, and kind of map: there is no confirmed universal fix for a puzzle map that will not rotate. First identify whether you mean an in-game puzzle object, a navigation screen, or a separate puzzle app, then check the controls and version for that specific game. If you mean Myst, the documented fixes below apply only to particular versions and symptoms.
Identify the game, map, and input method
Before changing settings, note the exact game and platform, the game version, and how you are controlling it. Also clarify what “map” means: a puzzle object that turns, a navigation view, or an external puzzle app. Those distinctions help separate an intended puzzle state from a control-binding issue, a game-specific defect, or a problem with the input device.
- Game and version: Record the title and version shown in its menu or launcher.
- Platform: Note whether you are playing on PC, console, mobile, or a VR headset.
- Input: Specify touch, keyboard and mouse, controller, or VR hand tracking.
- Expected action: Say whether you are trying to rotate the puzzle object, turn the camera, or move around a map.
Without those details, exact button presses or settings would be guesswork. Check the game’s own control guide for the action and confirm that the puzzle is in a state where interaction is allowed before assuming the input has failed.
If the game is Myst, distinguish the rotation controls
Myst has more than one action that could be described as rotation. Its Tower Rotation puzzle on Myst Island is a puzzle object; the Fortress Rotation Simulator is a separate interaction; turning the player or camera is not either puzzle. A fix for one does not establish a fix for the others.

Historical Tower Rotation changes
Cyan’s December 2020 Myst patch notes say the tower was fixed so it faces correctly when viewed from outside, and text was added to the tower-rotation painting. The notes also say controller stick dead-zone was increased to help with drift during free-roam. These are changes documented for that release, not proof that a current map-control problem has the same cause.
Fortress Rotation and snap turning
Cyan’s January 2021 Quest patch notes list a fix for a misaligned Fortress Rotation issue. They also describe adjusting snap-turn degrees so the resulting turn is represented more accurately. Snap turning changes the player or camera’s view; it should not be confused with rotating a puzzle object.

If you are playing Myst Mobile on iOS
For general movement-control trouble, Cyan documents two control modes in Myst Mobile for iOS: Virtual Gamepad Touch Controls and Legacy Navigation Mode. The first is a gamepad-like touchscreen layout; the second uses single-finger interaction similar to older Myst versions. Cyan says the mode can be changed in Settings. See its Myst Mobile control-options article for the relevant instructions.
This setting addresses movement controls. Cyan does not say that switching modes fixes a tower or puzzle-map rotation problem, so treat it as a check only when the issue is with general movement input.

Check current Myst version information and get support
Cyan’s July 15, 2026 update post identifies patch 3.3.0 for Myst (2020/2021). Its listed changes include an achievement fix and a key-icon display fix on certain Windows handhelds; it does not document a general fix for a puzzle map that ignores controls. Check the patch 3.3.0 notes if that version and platform match your setup, but do not assume an unrelated listed change resolves your symptom.
For a confirmed Myst technical issue, start with Cyan’s support and FAQ portal. Cyan says to contact its support team if the FAQ does not answer the issue. For physical Myst editions published by Broderbund or Ubisoft, Cyan directs players to Ubisoft Help.

What to include when asking for help
A useful support report makes the problem reproducible. Include the game and version, platform, input method, exact puzzle or screen, the action you attempted, and whether other controls still work. If the problem began after a setting or update change, include that detail too. For a game other than Myst, use that game’s official support channel; the Myst-specific notes above do not apply automatically.
