Both Sonic Generations and Shadow Generations are playable, but published settings and battery estimates differ between the two modes. Steam’s PC requirements are not Steam Deck benchmarks.
Steam Deck compatibility and what Verified means
Steam’s store listing marks SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS as “Verified” for Steam Deck and lists full controller support. The game was released on October 24, 2024, with Sonic Team as developer and SEGA as publisher. Check the Steam listing for the current compatibility status.
Verified is Steam’s compatibility designation, not a promise of identical frame rates in every scene or on every SteamOS version. The Steam listing is the relevant compatibility signal; it does not guarantee a particular graphics configuration or battery life.
Storage and PC requirements
Steam’s system-requirements listing calls for 35.3 GB of available storage. It describes a Windows PC minimum target of low settings at 720p and 30 FPS, and a recommended target of high settings at 1080p and 60 FPS. Those are PC requirements, not Steam Deck measurements or a guarantee that the Deck will match either target. See Steam Support’s technical issue page for the listing.

SEGA’s support overview, updated January 12, 2026, gives a 22.1 GB base-game file size. That figure is not interchangeable with Steam’s 35.3 GB available-space requirement: one is a stated base-game file size, while the other is the space Steam says to have available. SEGA’s overview describes the collection as Sonic content plus a separate Shadow story campaign.
First launch and controller setup
SteamDB’s recorded configuration notes an active internet connection is required during first-time setup. It also notes that an external Bluetooth or USB controller may not automatically become the active controller. These notes do not mean the Steam Deck’s built-in controls are unsupported. - For initial setup: connect the Deck to the internet before launching the game for the first time.
- For an external controller that is not responding: open the Steam Deck’s Quick Access Menu and select the external controller as the active controller. The selection may be necessary for Bluetooth and USB controllers.
Suggested settings for each game mode
SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS contains two experiences with different reported performance profiles. Steam Deck HQ published the settings below in its 2024 review. Treat them as one reviewer’s recommendations, not official SEGA settings or guaranteed optimal configurations.

Actual power use and play time vary with Deck hardware revision, screen brightness, scene, settings, battery condition, and software versions.
