The most practical way to use a foldable phone comfortably is to match its folded, open, or propped position to the task. Use the cover screen for quick, easy-to-reach actions, open the main screen when the larger workspace helps, and use Flex mode for supported hands-free tasks. If unwanted touches happen in a pocket, adjust wake and screen-protection settings; if they happen while you are holding the phone, those settings may not prevent contact with the screen edge.
First identify when the unwanted touch happens
“Accidental touch” can mean different things, and the solution depends on the situation:
- While stored in a pocket or bag: the screen may wake or register contact while the phone is enclosed.
- When the screen wakes unexpectedly: a motion or tap gesture may be turning it on.
- While you are using the phone: a finger or palm may rest on the display edge as you grip the device. Pocket-protection settings are not documented as a fix for this active-use contact.
- While holding the phone for a long task: changing which screen you use, or propping the phone for a supported task, can reduce how long you need to hold it.
Choose the folded, open, or propped position for the task

Samsung’s original Galaxy Fold guidance recommended arranging separate home screens for the cover and main displays so frequently used apps are easier to reach. That is useful layout context, not a promise that every current foldable has identical controls or will feel comfortable in every hand. Samsung Global Newsroom’s 2019 guide described comfortable use as partly a matter of gripping the device properly.
Reduce pocket or bag touches on a Galaxy phone
Samsung documents Accidental touch protection for keeping the screen off in dark places such as pockets and bags. This applies to storage-related interactions; Samsung’s guidance does not establish that the feature rejects a palm or finger resting on the display edge during active use. Menu names and availability can vary by Galaxy model and software version.

- Open Settings > Display.
- Turn on Accidental touch protection, if the option is available.
- If the phone is waking in a pocket or bag, open Settings > Advanced features > Motions and gestures and consider turning off Lift to wake or Double tap to turn on screen, if those controls are available on your model.

Do not confuse touch sensitivity with palm rejection
On supported Samsung phones, Touch sensitivity is intended to improve responsiveness in situations such as using a screen protector or gloves. It is not documented as a way to block palm contact at the edge, so increasing it is not a sensible first fix for that problem. Samsung also notes that a loose or damaged screen protector can reduce responsiveness, while a wet screen may respond poorly. Samsung’s display-settings guidance explains these controls and notes that settings vary by model.

Try reach adjustments before changing your grip
On some devices, a one-handed interface can bring controls closer to your thumb. Motorola documents a device-specific One-handed mode for the Edge 50; it should not be assumed to exist on every foldable. Motorola’s Edge 50 instructions explain how its mode works.
You can also place frequently used apps where they are easiest to reach on each display. If the phone’s shape or weight is what feels uncomfortable, try both the folded and unfolded positions and see which suits the task. There is no single grip or accessory that can be assumed to solve discomfort for every user and model.

Use a case or screen-film replacement only when it fits the problem
A compatible flip- or wallet-style case may help block accidental touches while a Galaxy phone is stored in a pocket or bag, according to Samsung Canada. That advice does not claim a case prevents edge contact while you actively use the phone. A case is optional: check exact model fit, including hinge clearance, before choosing one.
For Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip models, Samsung UK warns that removing the factory-fitted inner screen film or applying a non-official film may cause touch abnormalities or screen damage. If that film needs replacement, Samsung recommends service-centre replacement. This is manufacturer guidance for the specified Galaxy series, not a rule established for every foldable brand.
