Protect your Android phone by preparing it before it goes missing: use a hard-to-guess screen lock, turn on the theft protections available on your device, and set up Google Find Hub. If it is stolen, lock it remotely, secure your Google Account and phone service, then decide carefully whether to erase it. Features and menu names vary by phone, Android version, and region, and no single setting prevents every theft or intrusion.
Set up the protections that matter before a theft
Use a screen lock only you can guess
Set a PIN, password, or pattern that an observer cannot easily infer. A screen lock is the first barrier against someone opening your apps and data. Google also says it protects certain private data, including saved passwords and location history. The exact menu path differs across manufacturers and Android versions; search Settings for “Screen lock” if the label is not obvious. Google’s Android screen-lock guidance explains the available options.
Turn on supported theft protections
Search Settings for “Theft Protection” or “Lost Device Protection.” If your phone offers them, enable options such as Theft Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock, and authentication protections. Theft Detection Lock is designed to lock the screen when the phone detects behavior associated with a snatch-and-run theft. Offline Device Lock can lock a device after it has been disconnected for an extended period. These features require supported devices and software; their presence in a Google announcement does not mean they are available on every handset. Google describes feature availability and rollout context in its Android theft protection overview.
Consider Advanced Protection and Private Space
On supported phones, Android’s Advanced Protection mode can bundle security controls, including Play Protect, USB Protection, failed-authentication locking, and restrictions on apps installed from unknown sources. Those restrictions can be useful if you prioritize security, but they may block app installation or limit accessibility services; on supported MTE devices, performance can also be affected. Check Google’s Advanced Protection guidance and your manufacturer’s instructions before enabling it.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Private Space, where available, gives selected apps a separate protected space. It can add a layer for sensitive apps, but it does not stop someone from taking the phone or replace the main screen lock.
Make sure Find Hub can find the phone
Set up Find Hub while you still have the device. Google says remote actions require the phone to have power and connectivity, a Google Account, Find Hub enabled, and visibility in Google Play. Add your Google Account, leave Find Hub on, and check that the device appears in Google Play. Keep a lock screen enabled and make sure you can reach your account recovery methods and two-step verification backups without the missing phone. See Google’s Find Hub setup and lost-device instructions.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Keep a recovery route outside the phone
Store backup codes or other account recovery information somewhere you can reach if the phone is gone. If your only two-step verification method is on the missing handset, signing in to Find Hub or securing your account may become harder. A phone tether or lanyard may help you keep hold of a device in crowded settings, but it cannot protect its data if it is taken and is not a substitute for digital protections.
What to do when your Android phone is stolen
- Try to locate and lock it. From another phone or computer, open Find Hub, sign in, select the missing device, and use the available location and mark-as-lost or lock controls. These actions depend on the setup and connectivity requirements described above.
- Use Remote Lock if it is the faster route. Visit android.com/lock from another device to request a screen lock. Google’s January 2026 update describes Remote Lock for Android 10 and later and an optional security challenge. Availability can vary; the update also describes regional rollout changes, so check the current service and your device’s support. Google’s January 2026 update has the details.
- Secure your Google Account and phone service. Change your Google Account password if you believe it may be exposed, review account access, and contact your carrier to suspend the SIM or service. Ask whether the carrier can block the handset using its IMEI; Google notes that carriers can use the IMEI to disable a device.
- Protect other accounts if access may have been exposed. If the phone was unlocked or you suspect someone accessed it, change credentials for high-value accounts and contact your bank or other financial providers if payment or banking access could be at risk.
- Erase only after weighing the consequences. If recovery seems unlikely and protecting data takes priority, use Find Hub’s erase option if available. Google says erasing permanently deletes device data, may not delete data on an SD card, and removes the phone from Find Hub, so you will no longer be able to locate it there.
Choose the right control for the situation
| Control | When it helps | What it does | Key requirements or trade-offs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Screen lock | Before loss and whenever someone tries to access the phone | Restricts access to the device and helps protect certain private data | Set a PIN, password, or pattern that others cannot easily guess; menu labels vary. |
| Theft Detection Lock | At a suspected snatch-and-run | Can automatically lock the screen when supported software detects suspicious theft behavior | Requires a supported device and version; availability is not universal. |
| Offline Device Lock | After a device has been disconnected for a prolonged period | Can lock the screen when supported conditions are met | Requires supported software; timing and availability depend on the implementation. |
| Find Hub lock or mark-as-lost | After the phone goes missing | Lets you use available remote controls, including locking and locating | Google Account, Find Hub setup, device visibility, power, and connectivity affect remote actions. |
| Remote Lock | When you need a rapid screen-lock request from another device | Requests a remote screen lock | Google’s January 2026 update describes Android 10+ support; availability and optional security challenge can vary. |
| Remote erase | When recovery is unlikely and data protection takes priority | Permanently deletes device data | May not delete SD-card contents and removes the phone from Find Hub, ending location access there. |
| Advanced Protection | As a broader preventive security setting | Can combine supported protections such as Play Protect, USB Protection, failed-authentication locking, and unknown-source app restrictions | May restrict app installation or accessibility services and affect performance on supported MTE devices. |
Why the exact Android version and region matter
Google’s 2024 announcement introduced several theft-protection features with differing rollout paths and Android version requirements. Its January 2026 update describes added Identity Check and authentication safeguards for supported newer Android versions, as well as regional changes such as Brazil default-on protections. A further 2026 Android security announcement discusses Android 17 changes and expanded default-on availability in selected markets. These announcements describe rollouts, not a guarantee that a specific control is active on your phone. Check Settings and your manufacturer’s support information for your model and region.
