Steam Deck Verified does not mean a game is verified for standalone play on Steam Frame. The labels assess different devices and play modes: Deck Verified covers the experience on Steam Deck, while Steam Frame Standalone Verified covers a game running directly on the headset. Streaming a game from a PC to Frame is a separate mode.
What does Steam Deck Verified mean?
Steam Deck Verified is Valve’s highest compatibility category for Steam Deck. Valve describes a Verified game as one that “works great on Steam Deck, right out of the box.” Its review considers four areas:
- Input: whether the game supports the Deck’s controls and displays appropriate controller prompts.
- Display: whether the game uses a suitable resolution and default settings, with readable text.
- Seamlessness: whether players can navigate the game and its launchers without avoidable friction or warnings.
- System support: whether the game works with Steam Deck’s system software and, where relevant, Proton and required middleware.
Valve’s other Deck categories are Playable (some manual adjustment may be needed), Unsupported (the title is currently not functional on Deck), and Unknown (Valve has not checked it). These labels describe compatibility, not game quality. Valve’s Steam Deck Verified page explains the categories and checklist.
What does Steam Frame Verified mean?
The relevant label is Steam Frame Standalone Verified. It indicates that a game has been assessed for running directly on Steam Frame, rather than being streamed from a PC. Valve says its criteria are similar to Deck’s and highlights out-of-the-box graphics performance, clear and legible text and interface elements, and a working default controller configuration. Valve says the high-level criteria apply to both VR and non-VR games.

Valve announced the program on June 4, 2026, describing it as focused on the experience customers will have with Frame “out-of-the-box in standalone mode.” The public announcement gives high-level criteria, not a complete Frame testing checklist; “similar” should not be read as meaning the two programs use identical published tests. Does Steam Deck Verified mean a game works on Steam Frame?
No—not for standalone play. A Deck rating assesses the game on Deck; it does not establish that the game runs well directly on Frame or has earned Frame Standalone Verified status. Check the game’s Frame standalone label separately.

Streaming is distinct from standalone compatibility. Valve describes Steam Frame as streaming-first while also able to run some games standalone, and says users can stream their Steam library to Frame. A Deck rating is therefore not the same as a Frame standalone rating, and neither label should be used to infer an unlisted result for the other play mode. See Valve’s Steam Frame overview for its description of streaming and standalone play.
Does the Deck rating differ between LCD and OLED?
Valve says tested titles have the same compatibility rating on Steam Deck LCD and OLED models. That policy applies to those Deck models; it does not extend a Deck rating to Steam Frame. Valve’s Verified page provides the Deck rating information.

Why compatibility status can change
Compatibility is not necessarily permanent. Valve says it continues reviewing games, and game releases, updates, and device improvements can affect compatibility. Valve’s March 4, 2022 update called its compatibility counts a snapshot in time. For a current status, check the game’s Steam store page or its details in your library rather than relying on an older label or list. Valve’s 2022 update describes the snapshot nature of compatibility ratings.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why Proton is part of Deck compatibility
SteamOS is Linux-based, and Valve describes Proton as the compatibility layer it ships to support Windows games on SteamOS. That helps explain why system support appears in Deck’s checklist. Proton compatibility alone, however, does not guarantee a Steam Deck Verified rating; Valve also checks input, display, and seamlessness. Valve’s SteamOS gaming page describes SteamOS and Proton.
