Steam Frame Verified means a game meets Valve’s out-of-box compatibility criteria when it runs locally on Steam Frame. It covers performance, readable text and menus, default controls, and software compatibility. It is not a rating for games streamed from a PC, nor a promise of identical performance in every scene or setup.
What does Steam Frame Verified mean?
Valve’s Standalone Verified review summarizes whether a game is ready to play on Steam Frame without players needing to configure it to access all its functionality. The rating focuses on the default experience in standalone mode, including whether the game runs acceptably, its interface is legible on the headset display, and its default controller setup works.
Valve’s review process applies to games running locally on Steam Frame, including both 2D and VR games. It does not review a game running on a PC and streamed to the headset. Valve’s Steamworks Steam Frame Standalone Compatibility Review Process states: “This process only applies for games (both 2D and VR) running locally on Steam Frame, not games running on a PC streamed to Frame.”
What each compatibility result tells you

What does the review check?
Valve’s checklist assesses whether a game’s default standalone experience fits the headset’s form factor and input, performs adequately, and works through Proton. The criteria apply to both VR and non-VR titles.
- Performance and legibility: Default graphics settings must meet Valve’s performance threshold, and text and interface elements must be clear and readable on the built-in display.
- Controller access: The default controller configuration must let players access all game content. Players should not have to change in-game settings just to enable controller support.
- Accurate button prompts: When using physical Frame controls, on-screen button glyphs should correspond to Frame or supported Xbox button names. Inactive mouse and keyboard prompts should not appear.
- Usable launchers: Any launcher a game requires must also be navigable with a controller.
- Software compatibility: The game must not tell users that Frame’s hardware or software is unsupported. Proton-specific blocking bugs or performance problems can result in an Unsupported rating.
What performance does Verified require?
Valve’s 2026 documentation sets different minimum performance criteria for 2D and VR titles during normal play:

These are Valve’s review thresholds, not independent benchmark results or observed frame rates for every game. They do not guarantee that a title will hold the listed rate in every scene, at every setting, or on every user’s setup. Valve also says VR games below 1440×1440 will appear Unsupported.
How do controls factor into the rating?
Steam Frame Controllers combine tracked VR controls and capacitive finger tracking with familiar gamepad inputs, including a D-pad, ABXY buttons, thumbsticks, triggers, and bumpers. Valve describes them as backwards compatible with the SteamVR catalog. Those product features do not, by themselves, establish that a particular game’s default mapping is suitable: the compatibility review separately checks whether its controls let players use all the game’s content and whether its button prompts match the inputs.

A game can therefore be functional but rated Playable if its controls need manual setup. Verified is the stronger out-of-box signal: the default configuration should work without setup needed to access all functionality.
Does Steam Frame Verified apply to streamed games?
No. The Verified review applies to games running locally on the headset. Steam Frame also supports streaming games from a PC, but a standalone rating does not tell you how a streamed session will perform. Streaming depends on factors such as the host PC and wireless conditions; Valve describes the headset’s wireless hardware as designed to support streaming, but the standalone label is not a rating of that connection.

What games work on Steam Frame standalone?
Check the game’s Steam Frame compatibility result for the best available indicator of its reviewed local experience. Verified indicates it meets Valve’s out-of-box criteria; Playable indicates it works but may need adjustments; Unsupported identifies a compatibility failure; and Unknown means the experience has not been established by a completed review. The result is a guide to the local headset experience, not a guarantee about streamed play.
Valve lists SteamOS 3, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, 16 GB of unified LPDDR5X RAM, and supported display refresh rates of 72–144 Hz on the Steam Frame product page. These specifications describe the device; they do not replace a game’s compatibility review or predict results for a particular streaming setup.
