Before buying camera-enabled smart glasses, verify the exact model’s camera and storage specifications, phone and regional compatibility, recording-indicator behavior, fit and prescription options, battery claims, and purchase terms. These products vary by model and generation. Ray-Ban Meta Blayzer Optics Gen 2 is one useful example—not a specification standard for the category.
Which camera and video specifications matter?
Compare the exact model and generation rather than relying on a product family name. Check still-image resolution, available video resolutions and frame rates, maximum recording length, storage, and how capture is controlled. Published specifications describe what a product supports; they do not establish how well it performs in real-world conditions.
For example, Meta’s listing for the Ray-Ban Meta Blayzer Optics Gen 2 specifies a 12 MP ultra-wide camera, 3024 × 4032-pixel image acquisition, and 32 GB of flash storage. It lists video modes of 720p+ at 120 fps, 1080p+ at 30 or 60 fps, and 3K Ultra HD at 30 fps. Meta’s September 2025 announcement separately describes Gen 2 video up to 3K Ultra HD at 60 fps with ultrawide HDR. Those figures come from different official pages; check the listing for the exact variant rather than assuming every listed mode applies to every Gen 2 model.
Ask whether storage is local, how footage transfers to a phone, and whether the product supports the capture controls you want. If you need a specific recording duration or frame rate, confirm it on the model’s current product page and help documentation.

Will the glasses work with your phone and in your region?
Compatibility can be a purchase prerequisite: some features require a supported phone, operating system, companion app, account, internet connection, or location services. Check the exact model’s requirements and supported-device list, then confirm the product and app are available where you live.
Published requirements can differ between listings and regional support pages. The cited Blayzer Optics Gen 2 listing specifies iOS 15.2 or later and Android 10 minimum, and directs customers to a full supported-device list. Ray-Ban’s ASEAN FAQ instead lists iOS 14.4 or later or Android 10 or later, along with a valid Meta account, the Meta AI app, wireless internet, and location services on Android. Because those published requirements are not identical, use the current requirements for your exact model, phone, and market before ordering.

What do the recording lights indicate?
Find out what the visible capture indicator signals, when it turns on, and what the manufacturer says happens if it is blocked or tampered with. Do not assume that a light makes recording obvious in every setting or resolves whether a recording is appropriate. Rules for recording and consent vary by jurisdiction and context; check local requirements and venue policies before capturing people or private spaces.
Ray-Ban’s US FAQ says the outward-facing capture LED signals photo or video capture. For the products covered by that FAQ, a photo makes the notification and capture LEDs blink, while the LEDs remain solid during video recording. It also says video length can be set to 30 seconds, 60 seconds, or 3 minutes. Confirm that these details apply to the exact glasses you are considering.

Meta says its glasses activate notification and capture LEDs for photos, videos, and streaming, and that features prohibit capture if the light is covered. In a July 2026 company article, Meta said the camera is automatically disabled on its second-generation glasses if the capture LED is detected as blocked, and that it was updating detection of physical tampering or destruction. These are manufacturer statements, not independent verification of how the safeguard behaves in every circumstance.
How long does the battery last, and what is included?
Compare battery claims using the manufacturer’s stated conditions, and check both the glasses and charging case. “Up to” figures are not a promise of the same runtime for every person or use pattern. Also check charging speed, whether the case is included, and whether you need to buy a cable or wall adapter.

Meta’s September 2025 announcement says Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 lasts up to eight hours with typical use, can charge to 50% in 20 minutes, and comes with a case that provides up to 48 additional hours of charging. Meta’s Blayzer Optics Gen 2 listing says more than eight hours of battery life and up to 48 hours from a fully charged case. These are Meta’s claims, not independently tested results; the wording and figures differ by page.
The cited Blayzer Optics listing includes a charging case but says a USB-C charging cable is not included. Check the box contents for your chosen variant before buying a USB-C charging cable or other charging equipment.

Will the frames fit, and can you get prescription lenses?
Evaluate smart glasses as eyewear as well as electronics. Compare the frame dimensions, available sizes, weight, lens types, prescription availability, and any adjustment features. If possible, confirm fit with an optical retailer or a return policy that gives you time to assess comfort.
The Blayzer Optics Gen 2 listing gives frame weights of 49.2 g for standard and 52 g for large, and lists dimensions for two fits. It describes single-vision and progressive prescription options, plus clear, blue-violet filter, and Transitions lenses. The listing also describes over-extension hinges, interchangeable nose pads, and adjustable temple tips. These options are specific to that optical model; check the exact frame and lens combination you intend to order. Ask the optician whether the prescription and lens type you need are supported before purchasing prescription smart glasses lenses.
What should you check about privacy, AI, and data?
Read the current privacy information and settings for the exact product, especially if you plan to use camera-based AI features. Meta describes camera use for AI as a wearer asking a prompt that uses the glasses camera, such as identifying a landmark or plant. Meta also says voice recordings can be deleted and that deleted recordings will not be used for future training, while noting that model behavior does not change immediately. Check the current Meta responsible-innovation information and applicable privacy terms for details and available controls.
Consider where media goes after capture, how it transfers, what account or cloud services may be involved, and who can access it. Manufacturer descriptions explain the company’s stated behavior and policies; they are not a substitute for reviewing the current settings and terms that apply to your account and region.

Which warranty and return terms apply?
Check the terms at the seller you will actually buy from. Warranty duration, return windows, exclusions, and the process for prescription or customized lenses can vary by seller and market. The cited Meta Store listing gives a 12-month manufacturing-defect warranty and a 30-day standard return window for Meta.com orders; do not assume those terms apply to third-party retailers or other regions. Confirm the live terms before checkout.
