The short answer is to work in a fixed order. Start with Develop for basic tone and color. Use Curves for targeted fixes. Then Crop, and finish with Details and AI tools, applied only where the image needs them. Skylum publishes no universal slider values for Chromebook photos, so this article gives you a decision order and not numbers to copy.
First, confirm you’re using the right Luminar
Skylum markets a Luminar photo editor for Chromebook and describes it as an Android app. It is separate from Luminar Neo on desktop. Skylum’s Luminar Neo FAQ lists macOS and Windows requirements and does not list ChromeOS. Guides written for Neo’s desktop panels may therefore not match what you see on a Chromebook. Treat the tool names on Skylum’s Chromebook page as your reference: Develop, Curves, Crop, Details, filters, and AI tools.
The settings order that works for most photos
Skylum doesn’t publish a recommended preset or values for this app. The order below is general editing practice built on the tool categories Skylum lists. It is not the result of hands-on testing. Make modest changes, check the preview as you go, and keep the original so you can undo.
1. Develop: fix the foundation
Skylum describes Develop as the place for essential tone and color adjustments. Look at the photo and name its main problem: too dark, too bright, flat, or a color cast. Adjust only the controls that address that problem, and stop once the image looks balanced. Don’t move every slider just because it’s there.

2. Curves: fix specific tones or colors
According to Skylum’s Chromebook page, Curves can brighten, darken, add contrast, or shift colors. Use it when Develop leaves a problem in one tonal range, such as muddy shadows or washed-out highlights. Keep the curve gentle. Check highlights and shadows in the preview for clipping or odd color shifts.
3. Crop: straighten and frame
Skylum lists Crop for trimming, alignment, flipping, and rotation. Fix a tilted horizon and tighten the composition here. Look at the framing again after your tonal changes, because brightness and contrast can change what draws the eye.

4. Details: sharpen last and lightly
The page lists Details for sharpness. Sharpening goes late because earlier edits change how sharp the image looks. Zoom in on the preview to judge it. Halos or a crunchy texture mean you’ve gone too far.
5. AI tools and filters: optional extras
Skylum names AI features including Sky, Relight, and Structure. Use them when the photo has a matching problem, such as a dull sky or a flat subject. A stronger effect isn’t automatically a better one. If an AI result looks artificial, reduce it or skip it.

File formats, offline use, and device limits
- Formats: Skylum says the app supports JPEG, PNG, TIFF, and various RAW formats. The page doesn’t list which RAW camera models are covered, so test a file from your camera before planning a RAW workflow around it.
- Offline: Skylum says Luminar for Chromebook can be used offline. It doesn’t explain cloud sync or file availability. Make sure your source images are stored on the device before you go offline.
- Large files: Skylum says file-size limits vary with the device’s RAM and storage. Don’t expect every Chromebook to handle every large file equally well.
If a large photo is slow or won’t open
Skylum documents no specific fix for this, so these are practical suggestions only:
- Copy the photo to local storage and open it from there.
- Try a JPEG export of the same image in place of the RAW file.
- Close other apps and tabs to free memory.
- Free up storage on the device.
Don’t use the Neo desktop requirements to judge your Chromebook
The Neo FAQ lists macOS 12 or later, or 64-bit Windows 10 version 1909 or later, with 8 GB of RAM or more (16 GB recommended) and 10 GB of free disk space. Those figures apply to the desktop program only. They don’t tell you whether a Chromebook model will run the Android app well. Skylum’s Buy Luminar page also describes a bundle covering desktop plus a mobile app for iOS, Android, and ChromeOS. Pricing and bundle contents change, so check the current terms before buying.
