You can edit RAW photos in Luminar on a Chromebook using Skylum’s Luminar Android app, provided your Chromebook supports Android Runtime. Import the RAW file, adjust light and color, refine detail and framing, then save or export the result. Support varies by camera, so confirm that Luminar recognizes your camera’s RAW format before relying on this workflow.

Check that Luminar can run on your Chromebook

Skylum’s Google Play listing for Luminar describes it as an Android and ChromeOS photo editor and specifies ChromeOS devices with Android Runtime support. Check that your Chromebook supports Android apps and that the Luminar listing is available to install on your device.

This is the Android app route, not the Luminar Neo desktop application. Skylum’s Luminar Neo FAQ lists desktop system requirements for macOS and Windows; it does not establish a native ChromeOS desktop version.

Import the RAW file and confirm it opens correctly

  1. Install or open Luminar on your compatible Chromebook.
  2. Open the RAW image from the storage or import option available in the app.
  3. If the image is on a camera SD card, transfer it using a card reader if needed. Check your Chromebook’s ports and the card type before choosing a reader.
  4. Inspect the image after import. Skylum says Luminar supports RAW editing, but that does not guarantee support for every camera model. Check current camera compatibility for your specific model.

Make basic edits in a balanced order

Start with corrections that establish a natural-looking base, then move to framing and creative choices. Skylum’s Luminar for Chromebook page describes tools including Develop, Curves, Details, crop, and AI tools. The exact controls and layout may differ from Luminar Neo for desktop.

  1. Adjust light. Use the available Develop controls to correct exposure and overall brightness. Check highlights and shadows so that bright areas retain detail and darker areas do not become muddy.
  2. Refine color. Adjust color after the light is reasonably balanced. Make small changes and check that skin, skies, and other familiar colors still look plausible.
  3. Improve detail. Use detail controls sparingly; excessive sharpening can make edges look harsh or introduce visible artifacts.
  4. Crop or straighten. Set the composition and correct any unwanted tilt before adding a stylized treatment.
  5. Apply creative effects last. If you use a preset or AI effect, moderate its strength so it complements rather than overwhelms the original image.

Save or export the finished photo

Luminar Mobile’s menu guide describes saving to Photos, sharing, and export format choices that include JPEG, PNG, TIFF, and HEIF. Use the format that suits the destination: JPEG is commonly convenient for sharing, while TIFF may suit workflows that need a less compressed image. The guide does not establish that every format or save destination is available on every ChromeOS device, so check the options shown in your app and confirm the saved file opens as expected.

Fix strange colors or artifacts in a RAW photo

If a RAW image opens with unusual colors or visible artifacts, first check whether Luminar supports the exact camera model and RAW format. Skylum’s support guidance on strange RAW colors and artifacts suggests converting an unsupported camera RAW file to DNG with Adobe DNG Converter, then importing the converted file. Treat DNG conversion as a workaround to try, not a guarantee that every file will render correctly.

Chromebook or desktop: what to verify

Before choosing a workflow, compare the platform requirements, compatibility with your camera’s RAW files, controls you need, and export choices. Skylum’s published information identifies the Chromebook route as its Android app and lists macOS and Windows for Luminar Neo desktop. It does not provide a complete feature-by-feature comparison proving that the Chromebook app and desktop software have feature parity.
