Dementium II HD documents support for both controllers and keyboard and mouse. Connect your gamepad, launch the game, then open Options from the main menu and inspect or customize the controls. The PC Quick Start Guide lists a default controller layout you can use to check whether movement, aiming, interaction, and combat inputs are mapped as expected.
Set up a controller in Dementium II HD
- Connect your controller before launching the game. The game’s guide confirms controller support, but does not guarantee that every current controller will be detected automatically.
- Launch Dementium II HD and open Options. From the main menu, go to Options, then open the controls configuration.
- Select or customize the controller controls. The PC Quick Start Guide says controls can be customized in Options. It does not give current Steam client instructions for forcing Steam Input.
- Check the default layout. Use the mapping below as a baseline, then test it in a safe area of the game.
The Dementium II HD PC Quick Start Guide in the Steam Community hub states that the game supports “both Controller and Keyboard & Mouse setups.”
Default controller mapping
| Input | Default action |
|---|---|
| Left stick | Move |
| Right stick | Look |
| A | Examine or interact |
| X | Equip or put away the flashlight |
| Y | Select the next weapon |
| B | Select the previous weapon |
| D-pad directions | Quick-select weapons |
| Press left stick | Toggle crouch |
| Left bumper | Run while held |
| Left trigger | Jump |
| Right bumper | Reload |
| Right trigger | Attack or fire |
| Back | Open inventory |
| Start | Open pause menu |
This is the guide’s listed layout; button labels may not match the labels printed on every controller. Confirm actions in the in-game controls menu if your device uses different names or mappings.
Should you use Steam Input?
Start with the game’s documented controller controls. Steam Input provides per-app controller mapping in general, but its documentation does not establish a Dementium II HD-specific layout or confirm compatibility for particular current devices. Consider remapping only if the game detects your controller but the inputs do not behave as you want.

#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
When comparing the game’s native controls with a Steam Input remap, check whether the controller is detected, whether the displayed prompts correspond to your device, and whether you actually need to change the mapping. Steam Input is an option for mapping; it is not evidence that a particular Xbox, PlayStation, Bluetooth, or third-party controller currently works with this title.
Troubleshoot a controller that does not work
- Confirm the game sees the device. Check the in-game controls configuration and verify that controller inputs register there.
- Review the mapping. If the controller is recognized but an action is wrong, inspect or customize the controls in Options. If necessary, consider a per-app Steam Input mapping.
- Keep older compatibility reports in context. A pinned January 2014 Steam support discussion focused on Xbox 360 controller issues and distinguished Microsoft-manufactured controllers from licensed third-party devices. That is historical troubleshooting context, not a current compatibility list or guarantee.
- Do not assume a universal fix. Historical patch notes mention controller-support improvements and an interaction issue being investigated at the time, but they do not establish a guaranteed remedy for present-day devices.
