Protect a wiki from unauthorized AI-agent edits by enforcing access limits in the wiki, connector, or tool-execution layer—not by relying on the agent’s instructions. Give the agent a dedicated identity, start with read-only access, grant only the smallest task-specific scope, and require review for consequential changes. Log what it can access and do, and rehearse how to revoke that access.

Why an instruction not to edit is not enough

An AI agent may receive misleading instructions or make an unintended tool call. A prompt that says “do not edit” does not prevent the connected account or tool from submitting a change. The authorization boundary must be able to deny the action independently of the model. OWASP recommends reducing an agent’s permissions and limiting the commands or network paths available to it. See OWASP’s guidance on risks in large language model applications.

Microsoft’s guidance for agent identities recommends a dedicated identity, least-privilege access with defined scopes, allowlisted actions, logging, and revocation workflows. These controls are most useful when they work together: narrow access limits the possible damage, approval catches high-impact changes, and logs help establish what happened. See Microsoft Learn: Least privilege for AI agents with Microsoft Entra Agent ID.

Set up the access boundary

  1. Map the route to the wiki. Record the agent’s identity and owner, the connector or MCP server it uses, its credential type, the wiki areas in scope, and every tool that can write, delete, move, or change permissions. Authentication method matters: a platform policy may apply to one credential type but not another.
  2. Create a separate agent identity. Do not connect an agent through an administrator’s personal session or give it a broad credential simply because that is convenient. Document the identity’s owner, purpose, approved data, and allowed tools so its actions can be distinguished from a human’s.
  3. Begin with read-only permissions. If the agent only needs to answer questions or prepare a draft, grant the required read access without edit rights. Where the wiki supports it, narrow access by wiki, space, page, and operation. Add write access only when a defined workflow requires it.
  4. Enforce restrictions outside the agent. Configure wiki permissions, connector policies, or tool-execution checks so an unauthorized action is denied even if the agent requests it. Check that each layer actually governs the credential and integration in use.
  5. Put review before consequential actions. Require deterministic checks or human approval before publication, deletion, permission changes, or edits to protected pages. Keep routine, low-risk actions separate from these higher-impact writes.
  6. Log and test recovery. Keep records that connect the agent identity, effective scope, requested action, and target resource. Test disabling the agent and revoking or rotating its credentials; repeat the review when tools, workflows, or data scope change.

Check the integration’s authentication behavior

Confluence through Atlassian MCP

Atlassian documents an organization data security policy that can allow or block AI access to Jira and Confluence through MCP. For Confluence, covered pages, spaces, and classified content are unavailable to agents through MCP when the policy blocks access. Atlassian also notes two important limits: the policy applies to OAuth authentication, not API-token authentication, and some non-content operations may remain available. If MCP access is allowed, the connected user’s existing permissions govern which content the agent can access. See Atlassian’s documentation on controlling AI access to Atlassian Cloud products.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Therefore, confirm whether the deployed connection uses OAuth or an API token, then test both the content restrictions and the operations that remain available. Do not assume an MCP policy protects a connection that authenticates differently.

MediaWiki bots and page protection

MediaWiki’s bot guidance describes using a bot’s own account rather than a human administrator’s account. For edits, it describes retrieving an edit token and the relevant timestamps, including the latest revision’s base timestamp, before preparing a change. Page protection can restrict editing or moving a page to specified user groups. These native controls can limit what a bot account can change, but they still need to be paired with a deliberately narrow account scope. See the MediaWiki bot manual and MediaWiki protection API.

Agent tooling and approval hooks

Some agent frameworks expose tool permissions and lifecycle hooks that developers can use to check actions, write audit logs, or require approval. GitHub’s agent documentation is one example; its hooks are implementation options, not a guarantee that every framework supplies equivalent controls or uses safe defaults. See GitHub documentation on extending Copilot Chat with MCP.
