If your personal information was exposed and you suspect someone may be using your MitID, temporarily suspend your complete MitID now. You do not need proof of misuse first. A data exposure alone does not show that anyone accessed MitID, but unfamiliar approvals, messages, or account changes are reasons to act. MitID says a full suspension stops all MitID activity until you unlock it.
When to suspend your complete MitID
Suspend the full service if you approved an action you did not initiate, see an unexpected user ID change or unfamiliar MitID message, gave your user ID or password to someone you suspect was a fraudster, or otherwise believe your account may be misused. MitID says a full temporary suspension prevents both you and anyone else from using MitID. You can suspend it yourself or contact MitID Support for help. See MitID’s suspension instructions.
Choose the right kind of block
A missing phone and a potentially compromised account are different problems. Block a single authenticator if the only issue is that a device or other authenticator is lost or stolen. Suspend the complete MitID if you suspect account misuse.

MitID explains how to block an authenticator or MitID. Uninstalling the app does not block it. A full suspension can later be unlocked in the app or with Citizen Service; the instructions for a blocked authenticator describe its separate reactivation or replacement steps.

Review recent MitID activity
Check the latest-activity area and the fuller activity view in your MitID profile. Look for logins or approvals you do not recognize, and note the time and service involved before contacting support. MitID says the service-provider name shown in the activity log depends on your notification and profile settings, so a missing name alone may not establish whether an event was yours. Change exposed credentials using official MitID routes
Change your password
MitID says you can change your password in your profile after logging in with the MitID app, by phone through MitID Support, or at Citizen Service. The online process requires you to request access and wait 24 hours before editing the password; do not expect an immediate online change. Follow MitID’s password-change instructions.

If you suspect your account has been compromised, changing a password is not a substitute for suspending the complete MitID. Use the suspension process first, then follow official recovery guidance.
Consider changing your user ID
MitID lets you change your user ID in the app or at MitID.dk and recommends considering a change if misuse is suspected or you want an ID that is harder to guess. An unexpected user ID change is a warning sign; distinguish it from a change you made yourself. The steps are on MitID’s user ID page.

Protect your codes and contact support safely
- Never share MitID codes. MitID says public authorities, banks, and MitID Support will not ask you for your user ID or codes. If you independently contact your bank or MitID Support, the guidance allows for sharing your user ID in that context; it does not permit sharing codes.
- Read each approval prompt carefully before accepting it. MitID warns that no solution offers 100 percent protection against fraud. Read its guidance on protecting MitID.
- Use contact details on the live MitID Support page to confirm current phone numbers, hours, and identity-verification options. The page lists +45 33 98 00 10 for Denmark and +299 55 18 18 for Greenland, with help in Danish, English, and Greenlandic. It lists English and Danish support hours as Monday–Friday 8:00–20:00, weekends and public holidays 10:00–16:00, and December 24 and 31 10:00–14:00. For help blocking MitID outside support hours, it lists +45 33 37 00 37. These contact details and hours can change.
Do not send identity details through comments or ordinary email. MitID Support may need to verify your identity when helping with a password reset; check the current official process rather than sending sensitive information through an unverified channel.

If you confirm that someone has misused your MitID, MitID says to report it to the police. Contact MitID Support or Citizen Service for help with suspending, recovering, or unlocking your MitID. These instructions cover MitID; they do not establish what steps are appropriate for any other exposed account or service, so check those providers’ own official guidance.
