Jira Cloud supports agile software development with Scrum, Kanban, and adapted approaches. It can help a team plan and track work, but it does not make a process agile on its own or guarantee better delivery. The right setup depends on how your team works and how its boards, workflows, permissions, and plan features are configured.
What Jira can do for an agile team
Jira Cloud provides configurable software projects and boards for organizing work. Depending on the team’s approach, it can support backlog planning, work-item tracking, sprint coordination, monitoring work in progress, reports, roadmaps, and integrations. Atlassian describes support for Scrum, Kanban, and other approaches, including mixed methods such as Scrumban. These are product capabilities, not evidence that using Jira by itself improves delivery outcomes.
Jira’s setup guidance includes company-managed Scrum and Kanban projects as well as team-managed boards. Planning documentation covers backlogs, epics, versions, and board configuration. See Atlassian’s Jira Cloud project setup guide and backlog documentation.
Choose Scrum or Kanban based on how work flows
| Decision | Scrum in Jira | Kanban in Jira |
|---|---|---|
| Work cadence | Time-boxed sprints planned from a backlog | Continuous work flow; Jira Cloud sprints do not apply to Kanban spaces |
| Planning view | Scrum backlog and sprint planning | Kanban backlog or board and work-in-progress monitoring |
| Progress monitoring | Active sprint board and sprint reports | Kanban board and flow monitoring |
| Useful team question | Can the team plan and review work in sprint intervals? | Does the team need to pull and monitor work continuously? |
Atlassian’s support documentation is explicit: “Only Scrum teams can use sprints.” A Kanban team should therefore organize around continuous flow rather than try to plan work through Jira sprints. See What is a sprint? and Atlassian’s Kanban board guidance.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For Scrum teams
A Scrum backlog lets a team create and update work items, rank backlog items, estimate stories, and associate work with sprints, epics, or versions. The team can plan work into a sprint and use an active sprint board to follow progress. Atlassian recommends fixed two-week sprints for teams that have not run sprints before; treat that as Atlassian’s starting recommendation, not a rule that suits every team. See planning and estimation guidance and sprint guidance.
For Kanban teams
A Kanban board is intended to help monitor work in progress and visualize flow through the team’s workflow. Configure columns to reflect the actual stages of work, then use the board to see where items are moving or accumulating. Kanban is a continuous-flow approach in Jira Cloud, not a sprint cycle.

For mixed or adapted approaches
Jira can be configured for approaches that combine practices, such as Scrumban. Avoid assuming that a default board or workflow will fit every team: match statuses, columns, planning views, and working agreements to the process the team intends to follow.
Check board visibility and permissions before relying on the backlog
A Scrum backlog is not necessarily a complete list of every issue in a project. Atlassian’s Jira Cloud documentation says visibility depends on the issue not being a subtask, matching the board’s saved filter, and having a status mapped to an appropriate board column. If work seems to be missing, check those conditions first. Some actions also require specific access: the cited sprint documentation requires project administrator access for projects matching the board filter to start a sprint. See Scrum backlog guidance.

Decide whether Jira fits your team
Jira is a plausible fit if your software team needs a shared place to prioritize work, visualize progress, coordinate either sprints or continuous flow, and connect development tools. Evaluate the workflow the team will actually use rather than choosing a board because it is labeled agile.
- For Scrum: Check whether backlog ranking, estimation, sprint planning, and active-sprint tracking fit the team’s planning and review rhythm.
- For Kanban: Check whether the board’s columns and work-in-progress visibility reflect how work moves through the team.
- For either approach: Confirm that the workflow can be configured cleanly, the right people have the required permissions, and the current plan includes the features the team needs.
If project documentation should sit alongside delivery work, Jira Cloud guidance supports linking Confluence pages to Jira work items and sprints. Atlassian’s product material also describes reports, roadmaps, integrations, and add-ons, but those capabilities should be assessed against the team’s needs rather than treated as proof of better outcomes.

Which Jira instructions apply?
This guidance focuses on Jira Cloud. Atlassian’s current Cloud setup pages use the term “spaces” in some places and distinguish company-managed from team-managed boards. Older Jira Software or Data Center interfaces may use different labels and configuration steps, so follow documentation for the deployment and interface your organization actually uses.
