Evernote lists a Free plan at $0 on its current plan comparison. It is a capped plan, not an unlimited trial: up to 50 notes, one notebook and one connected device. Evernote Web counts as a device.
What the Evernote Free plan includes
Evernote’s plan comparison (checked October 7, 2026) lists these Free limits:
| Item | Free plan limit |
|---|---|
| Notes | 50 |
| Notebooks | 1 |
| Spaces | 5 |
| Tags | 20 |
| Attachments | 200 |
| Connected devices | 1 |
| Total storage | 1 GB |
| Monthly uploads | Disputed: 250 MB or 1 GB (see below) |
Evernote also advertises Tasks, Calendar, Web Clipper, image and document search, offline mode and PDF annotations among Free features. Treat the page as a current product listing. It may not match every legacy or region-specific account.
The one-device limit includes Evernote Web
Evernote’s device-limit Help article (updated January 19, 2026) says Free allows one connected device at a time. Windows and Mac apps, Android and iOS apps, and Evernote Web all count. If you use the phone app, signing in on a laptop browser counts as a second device. Plan around a single platform, or expect to hit the cap.
#1 Best Overall

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What happens when you reach the note or notebook limit
Evernote’s Free and Starter limits article (updated January 19, 2026) says that at the cap you can still view, edit, share and export existing content. What you cannot do is create new notes or notebooks until you are back within the limit.
- Trash still counts. A deleted note does not free its slot until you empty the trash.
- Shared notes. You can receive them, but you cannot move them into your personal notebooks until you are within the plan limits or upgrade.
Monthly uploads: Evernote’s own pages disagree
Two kinds of limit are easy to confuse. Evernote defines the monthly upload limit as the new content you can add each month, and it resets monthly. The storage limit is the total your account can hold, and it does not reset.

On storage, the sources agree: 1 GB. On monthly uploads, they do not:
- Evernote’s Help article, updated April 14, 2026, says Free has 250 MB of monthly uploads.
- The plan comparison page lists 1 GB of monthly uploads, with a 1 GB maximum note size.
- Evernote’s September 2024 product update reported raising the Free monthly upload cap to 250 MB from 60 MB.
None of these sources explains the gap, so treat neither figure as settled. To see your own allowance, open Evernote Web and check your monthly usage under Account Summary, as the Help article directs. Evernote Help & Learning also states: “Regardless of the limit reached, your existing content remains fully accessible.”

Will you lose notes if you downgrade from a paid plan?
No. For individual accounts, Evernote says cancelling does not erase notes. At the end of the billing cycle the account reverts to Free, and you can still access, view, edit, export or delete existing notes and notebooks.
- If you have more than 50 notes or more than one notebook, you cannot create new notes until you are back within the Free caps.
- Syncing across multiple devices and some other premium features stop.
Team subscriptions have separate guidance from Evernote. If you are on one, check it before cancelling. Export your notes first if you want a safe copy.

Free vs paid: what to compare
Evernote lists Starter and Advanced as its paid individual tiers. Its plan comparison page showed $99 per year for Starter and $249.99 per year for Advanced on October 7, 2026. That works out to about $8.25 and $20.83 per month when billed annually. Evernote’s migration FAQ gives regional prices and warns that Apple or Google Play subscriptions may cost different amounts, so check your own billing page. Paid plans come with a seven-day trial, but Free is a separate, permanent $0 tier.
