A sensible upkeep routine still starts with updates, storage, startup apps, and investigating recurring problems; the software is an optional package to consider alongside those basics.
Start with routine PC upkeep
Before installing a tune-up utility, keep Windows and your browser updated, review which apps start with Windows, and leave adequate free storage for updates and normal operation. If your PC repeatedly crashes, runs unusually hot, or slows down abruptly, investigate the underlying cause rather than assuming that a cleanup scan will fix it. Back up important files before cleanup or recovery work, and especially before any drive-wiping operation.
These actions address common maintenance needs, but they are not a promise of a particular speed improvement. A utility can remove selected clutter or offer maintenance features; it cannot fix every hardware fault, software conflict, or performance bottleneck.

iolo describes Ultimate Defense as System Mechanic performance features combined with privacy protection, virus and malware protection, and password management. Its product materials and quick-start guide also list System Shield antivirus, Malware Killer, Privacy Guardian, ByePass+ password management, Search and Recover for file recovery, and DriveScrubber for drive erasure. The exact package and terms can change, so check the current product page before buying.

Those are vendor descriptions of included tools, not independent evidence that the package outperforms Windows’ built-in options or competing products. The sources available do not establish benchmark results, comparative security efficacy, or a guaranteed improvement in speed or protection.
How iolo describes its maintenance automation
iolo says Smart ActiveCare schedules maintenance scans and repairs when a PC is idle. It also describes SmartScan as finding and cleaning selected clutter. In its September 2025 version 25.7 release notes, iolo said SmartScan had been updated to recognize current storage paths for major browsers. These descriptions explain what the vendor says the features do; they do not independently demonstrate a measurable speed gain.

iolo’s product page characterizes Smart ActiveCare as using AI to detect and repair issues. Treat that as product wording, not proof that every detected issue is correctly diagnosed or that repairs will make a particular computer faster. Review what a scan proposes before allowing changes, especially if you rely on browser data or other files that a cleanup tool might identify.
Check compatibility and installation requirements
iolo’s product and trial pages list Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 8, and 7. This is the vendor’s compatibility list, not a statement that Microsoft currently supports every listed Windows version. Confirm that your actual Windows edition and current system meet the live product requirements before installing.
On its trial page, iolo lists a minimum of 512 MB RAM, 100 MB available disk space, an internet connection for activation, an administrator account, and current Windows updates. Requirements may change; verify them on the current iolo product page and iolo trial/download page.
iolo’s quick-start guide instructs users to uninstall other third-party antivirus software before installing System Shield as their primary real-time antivirus. Do not remove your existing security software casually: check what is currently protecting the PC and follow the current instructions for both products before changing the configuration. An all-in-one interface may suit someone who wants performance cleanup, security, privacy, and password tools from one vendor. It may be less useful if you already have tools you trust for those jobs, need only basic maintenance, or would rather avoid adding another security suite. Compare what you would actually use, whether the license covers the devices you need, support for your Windows version, overlap with existing antivirus and password tools, and the current price and renewal terms.
The product materials do not establish that Ultimate Defense is objectively faster or safer than built-in Windows features or competing products. Make the choice based on the features and terms you need, not a promise that any tune-up package can make every PC run like new.

Understand the included term and renewal
iolo says certain features require ongoing updates, that one year is included with the initial purchase, and that renewal is needed to continue access to those features after that period. Check the live purchase terms for the current price, included term, renewal amount, and cancellation conditions before you commit; displayed pricing and offers can change.
Use recovery and drive erasure carefully
Search and Recover and DriveScrubber are among the tools iolo lists for Ultimate Defense. File recovery and permanent drive erasure are different, consequential tasks: back up important files before cleanup or recovery operations, and verify the target drive and contents before erasing anything. A drive wipe is not routine tune-up maintenance.
