Those problems need different responses. A cleaner source image and clearer motion instructions are the best-supported first steps for many generation defects; an upscaler or flicker filter is not a universal repair.
Identify the problem before changing the clip
Watch the clip at normal speed, then inspect the source image and the affected frames. Note whether the problem changes from frame to frame, appears only at a transition, or is consistent softness. This distinction matters: the available official guidance addresses different causes, not one catch-all “AI video” defect.
- Inspect the input image. Look for blurred or malformed faces and hands, motion blur, strong directional lines, or an action pose that may imply movement.
- Name the symptom. Separate temporal warping or identity drift from a sudden cut, unwanted camera movement, fine-edge display flicker, and low resolution.
- Choose a remedy for that symptom. For generation instability, first improve the input and motion prompt. Use a display-flicker filter only for its documented case, and upscale only when resolution is the problem.
- Regenerate selectively. If a face or subject keeps changing, simplify the action or shorten the shot and test again rather than assuming a post-production filter will restore it.
Runway says an image-to-video source sets composition, subject, lighting, and style, and warns that defects such as blurry hands or faces may become more pronounced after animation. Its Image to Video Prompting Guide is specific to its workflow; treat its recommendations as iteration guidance, not a guarantee for every video model.
Reduce flicker, warping, or distorted faces
Start with a cleaner source and simpler motion
Before changing the prompt, check whether the input already contains the defect. A generator has to animate the information it receives, and Runway cautions that visual artifacts in the source may intensify. Use a sharper, cleaner frame when possible, especially around the face and hands.

Then describe what should move, how it should move, and in what sequence. For image-to-video, Runway recommends focusing the prompt on motion rather than re-describing visible content. Use direct sequential instructions when actions must happen in order, and keep the sequence commensurate with the clip duration. A source with motion blur or an action pose can imply a different action from the written prompt; reducing those conflicting cues may make the request easier to interpret.
If a face changes shape or identity from frame to frame, simplify the movement and regenerate from a cleaner image. A 2022 preprint on temporally consistent semantic video editing discusses facial identity loss and temporal flicker in some per-frame editing approaches; that is context for why consistency can be difficult, not a repair recipe for current generators. The sources here do not establish a reliable universal face-restoration control. Do not expect a resolution upscale or a general flicker setting to stabilize identity.

Fix unwanted cuts or camera movement
For a shot that cuts unexpectedly
Runway suggests testing a longer duration and stating that the shot should be continuous or seamless. These are prompting adjustments to try, not controls that guarantee a single uninterrupted shot.
For camera movement you did not ask for
Specify which movement belongs in the frame—for example, subject or environmental motion—and describe the camera as locked off or minimally moving if that is the intent. If the generated clip still drifts, stabilization in an editor may help reduce visible camera motion. Stabilization addresses the movement of the frame; it does not repair a face or other subject that changes shape between frames.

Use Premiere’s anti-flicker filter only for fine-edge display flicker
Adobe’s Premiere guidance describes the Anti-flicker Filter for thin lines and sharp edges that flicker on interlaced displays. It is a narrow case, not evidence that the filter corrects AI-generated facial warping or temporal changes in appearance. See Adobe’s Premiere Pro flicker guidance, marked last updated August 22, 2025.
Preview while adjusting the filter: Adobe notes that stronger filtering can reduce more flicker but also makes the image softer. The filter’s intensity can be keyframed over a clip, which can be useful if the flicker is limited to part of the footage. Avoid increasing the setting beyond what the affected edges need.

Handle generated-to-live-action transitions separately
A transition between generated frames and captured footage may pop or jitter because even slight differences between the two can disrupt temporal continuity. Adobe Research also describes sudden blur when high-frequency texture is lost during downsampling and upsampling. Its GenExtend approach uses reference-guided decoding and super-resolution, then normalizes contrast and brightness to improve continuity.
This explains why matching neighboring content matters, but the Adobe Research article does not provide a universal user-side repair for every editor or generation model. If the mismatch is at a join, inspect the adjoining frames and the transition rather than treating the whole clip as a resolution problem. Read the Adobe Research and Firefly team’s GenExtend overview for the method described.

Upscale only when the clip is too soft or small
Upscaling adds pixels; it does not fix temporal flicker, unstable identity, or distorted anatomy. Runway says its upscaler preserves the video’s length, frame rate, and aspect ratio. Its help article also cautions that a nominal 4K upscale may not produce exactly 3840 × 2160 pixels, so an editor may be needed to scale to exact UHD. See Runway’s upscaling guidance.
Exporting a project at 4K does not, by itself, increase the resolution of source footage that is below 4K. Runway’s separate 4K generation guidance is relevant when choosing a generation or delivery workflow; distinguish a larger export canvas from genuinely higher-resolution source or generated detail.
