Before buying a Samsung Galaxy SmartTag3, check your exact phone model: Samsung’s published compatibility details specify Galaxy phones and tablets running Android 12 or later, with the SmartThings app required. They do not clearly confirm setup or feature support for non-Samsung Android phones. Even on a compatible Galaxy device, advanced directions, remote finding, range, and battery life depend on hardware, conditions, and settings.
Will Samsung SmartTag3 work with my Android phone?
Not necessarily. Samsung Canada lists compatible Galaxy phones and tablets running Android 12 or later and requires the SmartThings app. That is a Galaxy-device requirement, not a blanket statement that any Android phone will work. Samsung’s published SmartTag3 information reviewed here does not clearly establish whether a non-Galaxy Android phone can set up the tag or which features it can use.
If you have a Google Pixel or another non-Samsung Android phone, verify SmartTag3 support for your exact model with Samsung before purchasing. Do not assume that installing SmartThings alone will make the tag compatible.
Samsung’s SmartTag3-specific compatibility details are on its Canadian product specifications page. Requirements can vary by region, and the page does not settle the non-Galaxy Android question.

- Find your things with ease: The SmartThings Find app uses Bluetooth and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology to locate and keep track of your stuff

What phone do I need for SmartTag3 Compass View?
Basic compatibility and directional finding are different checks. Compass View requires a compatible Galaxy device with UWB or Bluetooth Channel Sounding support. Samsung lists Bluetooth Channel Sounding support for the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8, S26 Ultra, and S26 Plus, and says additional devices may be supported later. Availability can vary by device and region; check Samsung’s current specifications for your particular phone.
SmartTag3 also includes Bluetooth LE, a buzzer, and other SmartThings features, but feature availability can differ by phone hardware, platform, and country. Do not treat the tag’s feature list as a promise that every feature works on every Android phone.

How far away can SmartTag3 find an item?
Samsung’s Canadian specifications list maximum figures of up to 120 m for Bluetooth LE, 60 m for Bluetooth Channel Sounding, and 20 m for UWB. These are different wireless methods, not one universal everyday range. Samsung specifies that the 60 m Channel Sounding figure is measured with line of sight; walls, nearby electronics, and other obstacles can reduce range and accuracy.
Remote location is a separate matter from a direct connection between your phone and the tag. Samsung says more than 900 million participating Galaxy devices worldwide can act as finding nodes. That is Samsung’s network-size claim, not a guarantee of a location update: a participating device still needs to come within range of the tag. See Samsung’s global SmartTag3 announcement for its description of the finding network.

When does Galaxy SmartTag3 go on sale, and what does it cost?
As of October 7, 2026, Samsung said SmartTag3 would launch first in Korea on October 7, followed by the United States, with other markets following in 2027. Samsung Electronics America said U.S. availability was expected by early November 2026, at announced prices of $29.99 for one and $99.99 for a four-pack. Those are U.S. announcement prices and availability expectations—not confirmation that a retailer has stock. Check Samsung or local retailer listings for current regional availability and pricing.
What will you need for attachment, battery changes, and upkeep?
Battery and expected life
SmartTag3 uses a replaceable CR2032 coin-cell battery. Samsung estimates up to 550 days under standard use or up to 790 days in Power Saving Mode, based on its internal lab testing; actual life varies with use and conditions. Power Saving Mode limits some features. The tag’s listed box contents include the battery attached to the tag, a battery-tray ejection pin, and a quick-start guide. You may eventually need a compatible CR2032 replacement battery.

Case and attachment
Samsung lists a Silicone Case with a metal carabiner/keyring and a Loop Case as separate accessories. If the tag is going on keys, a bag, or a pet’s gear, check whether its attachment method suits that item and include any case you need in your budget.
Size, water resistance, and safety
Samsung lists the tag at 31 × 31 × 8.2 mm and 9.15 g, with an IP67 rating. Its explanation says the tag can withstand water up to 1 m deep for up to 30 minutes, while warning that water resistance can diminish and advising against beach or pool use. Samsung also warns that a detached tag can pose a swallowing hazard to young children and pets; inspect the attachment regularly.

Which features and trade-offs should you compare?
If you are choosing between SmartTag3 and another tracker, compare the capabilities that matter for your phone and how you will use the tag—not just the headline range.
- Phone support: Confirm that your exact phone can set up the tag and which functions it supports.
- Finding hardware: Check whether your phone supports UWB or Bluetooth Channel Sounding if you want Compass View.
- Location network: Consider the device network available where you expect to use the tag; Samsung’s network figure does not guarantee coverage in a particular place.
- Battery and attachment: Compare battery type, replaceability, estimated life, and whether the attachment you need is included or sold separately.
- Cross-platform use and local availability: Check sharing and feature support across the phones people in your household use, plus local price and stock.
Samsung says SmartTag3 is about 35% smaller by volume and 33% lighter than the previous generation; those are manufacturer comparisons, not independent measurements. Its feature list includes NFC-powered Lost Mode, movement alerts, Place Notification, SmartThings routines, Left Behind Alert, and Location History that retains records for up to seven days. Samsung says Place Notification is a trial feature. It also states that Compass View, Ring Phone, and Left Behind Alert are unavailable on iOS, so do not assume identical features across platforms.
