If a Modern Warfare mastery camo challenge is not tracking, first verify the exact challenge and its prerequisite, then check whether the challenge counter is stuck or only the mastery summary looks wrong. Both display defects and genuine challenge-tracking bugs have appeared in Modern Warfare III, so there is no single fix that applies to every game, weapon, or mode.
First, identify the game and the exact challenge
“Modern Warfare” can refer to different releases, and their camo paths are not interchangeable. Before troubleshooting, note the game (such as MWII or MWIII), mode (Multiplayer or Zombies), weapon, camo tier, platform, and the exact requirement shown in-game. Compare your actions with that wording rather than with a guide for another title or mode.
Activision’s camo-system overview distinguishes the paths: MWIII Multiplayer Completionist camos are Gilded, Forged, Priceless, and Interstellar; MWIII Zombies uses Golden Enigma, Zircon Scale, Serpentinite, and Borealis for MWIII weapons; and MWII Zombies uses Golden Ivory, Spinel Husk, Arachnida, and Bioluminescent. MWII Multiplayer has its own Completionist camos, including Gold, Platinum, Polyatomic, and Orion. Requirements also vary by weapon.
Is the progress display wrong, or is the challenge actually stuck?
Check the specific challenge counter and the camo’s unlock state separately from any mastery summary or overall progress display. A summary number that looks wrong does not by itself prove that the underlying challenge failed to register; conversely, a visual discrepancy is not proof that the reward will unlock.

Call of Duty’s MWIII Season 2 patch notes, published in March 2024, recorded: “Resolved a visual bug in which progression for Weapon Mastery camo challenges was not displayed accurately.” That establishes that a mastery display defect has occurred in MWIII, but it does not diagnose a current issue in your game.
Check whether a prerequisite is blocking the next tier
Do not assume a lower-tier camo that appears unlocked has satisfied every condition needed to start the next challenge. In a specific SOA Subverter case, Activision’s Known Issues page, shown as updated August 7, 2026, says that Gilded progression requires completing the Dopamine requirement of 15 Operator Headshots, even if Dopamine appears unlocked and complete. This is guidance for the named weapon and issue, not a general instruction to repeat every camo challenge.

Make sure the action matches the mode and requirement
Read the full in-game condition, including the weapon, action, and mode restrictions, then make sure the match you play satisfies them. A condition for one weapon or mode may not count in another. Activision’s camo overview separates Multiplayer and Zombies tracks as well as base, Completionist, and Weapon Mastery challenges; use the track for your exact game and mode.
When a genuine tracking bug is possible
Historical MWIII patch notes document fixes to challenge tracking as well as to the mastery display. The Season 2 notes describe changes involving missing laser attachments for Marksman Rifle Gilded tracking, Juggernaut Recon kills, and a Priceless challenge correction for the SOA Subverter in a March 13 update. MWIII launch notes also recorded a DM58 Priceless progression issue and a fix enabling Golden Enigma or Golden Ivory with non-blueprint weapons. These examples show that game-side defects can affect individual challenges; they do not establish that an older defect is still active or that it matches your symptom.

What to do if the counter still does not move
- Capture the details. Record the title, platform, mode, weapon, camo tier, exact requirement, and current counter.
- Test the stated condition. Complete an eligible match while following the in-game wording, then compare the counter before and after. Note whether the camo reward unlocks.
- Check official status. Use Activision’s Modern Warfare III support page to find Known Issues and Feedback and Bug Reporting. If you are playing another Modern Warfare title, use that title’s support route rather than assuming the MWIII issue list applies.
- Report an unlisted issue. Include the details above and whether the challenge counter changed or the camo unlocked. Reporting does not guarantee a workaround or a particular resolution time.
Fixes that are not established by the available evidence
The official records cited here support checking the challenge conditions, monitoring game updates, and reporting an unlisted defect. They do not establish that reinstalling the game, changing controllers, clearing a cache, or buying an accessory will fix camo progression. Avoid treating those steps as proven solutions when the cause may be a prerequisite, a display problem, or a game-side tracking defect.
