Choose a specific graphics card for your budget, games or applications, and PC—not a brand in the abstract. For gaming, compare current local prices and recent results in the same games at your target resolution and settings. For creative or local AI work, check support and performance in the exact software you use. Then verify the individual card’s power requirements and physical fit.
Start with your workload, resolution, and budget
Make a shortlist of specific Radeon and GeForce models in the price range you can actually pay. AMD’s current gaming guidance positions its RX 9070 XT and RX 9070, both listed with 16 GB GDDR6, and RX 9060 XT models with either 16 GB or 8 GB for gaming; AMD discusses the 9070 series and RX 9060 XT in its 1440p guidance and the RX 9060 XT for 1080p. These are AMD’s product-positioning statements, not independent proof that a card beats a similarly priced GeForce. AMD’s Radeon gaming and product guidance is a useful place to identify models, but make the comparison using independent tests and current prices.
For each candidate, compare results from the same game, resolution, graphics settings, and feature configuration. Average frame rate alone may not tell the whole story: check 1% lows when available to understand frame-rate consistency, and make sure the test uses the same ray-tracing and upscaling settings. A review result at 4K with ray tracing enabled is not a fair stand-in for a 1440p test without it.
- 1080p gaming: Check whether the card can meet your desired frame rate in the games you play, and whether the rest of your system is likely to limit performance.
- 1440p or 4K gaming: Prioritize like-for-like tests at the resolution you intend to use, including the graphics settings you care about.
- Mixed use: Compare the gaming results and the specific application performance separately; a strong gaming result does not establish that the same card is best for editing, rendering, or AI.
Compare total value at today’s local prices
There is no durable AMD-versus-Nvidia value winner. Street prices and availability vary by market and change over time, so compare the actual cards you can buy where you live. A modest price difference can reverse which card offers better value when performance is close.

Use a recent, consistent benchmark suite rather than combining results from different test systems or old reviews. ComputerBase’s 2026 suite covers GeForce RTX 5000 and 4000, Radeon RX 9000 and 7000, and Intel Arc cards; its update history notes changes from newer games, drivers, and upscaling technology, with additions through July 2026. That is why an older ranking may no longer reflect current results. ComputerBase’s 2026 graphics-card benchmark suite provides an example of an updated test set.
Tom’s Guide’s 2026 guide also evaluates gaming, productivity, and AI and notes that price volatility can shift a card between budget categories. It describes the AMD RX 9070 GRE as strong 1440p value at the price it evaluated, while noting tradeoffs for AI and creator work and advantages for DLSS in supported games. Treat that as the guide’s assessment of that card and its test context—not a verdict on every Radeon or GeForce model. Tom’s Guide’s 2026 graphics-card guide is another workload-oriented reference.

For gaming, weigh ray tracing and upscaling in your games
Ray tracing and image reconstruction can change the comparison substantially. Check whether the games you play support the relevant features, how well each candidate performs with them enabled, and whether you like the resulting image quality. Do not compare one card using an upscaler with another rendering natively unless that is the real choice you are evaluating.
AMD lists FSR 4 support for the RX 9000 models covered on its gaming page. Nvidia’s official comparison lists DLSS features by GeForce generation. Feature availability is not the same as universal game support, so verify support for the games you care about and compare performance under matching conditions. AMD’s Radeon gaming guidance and Nvidia’s GeForce comparison describe their respective product features.

For creative work, compare the exact application and task
“Creator” covers different jobs: video editing, 3D rendering, image processing, and other applications may rely on different features and software paths. Check benchmarks for the application, task, and versions you use, along with memory needs and any specific encoding or decoding support. Nvidia’s comparison lists NVENC generations and AV1 encoding support for RTX 40 and RTX 50 series, but a feature list alone does not establish which card completes your particular workflow faster. Nvidia’s GeForce comparison lists those generation-level capabilities.
For local AI, confirm software support and memory fit
Start with the framework and application you plan to run, then check whether it supports the candidate GPU and how it performs on your intended task. Model size and available memory can be as important as the brand name. Nvidia lists CUDA capability and Tensor Cores by GeForce generation. AMD says RX 7000 cards support local AI workloads and multiple machine-learning frameworks, and lists up to 24 GB of VRAM for the series. Those vendor claims are starting points, not independent evidence that a particular model, framework, or workload will run faster or fit in memory. Nvidia’s GeForce comparison and AMD’s Radeon RX 7000 series page describe their respective features.

Check the exact card’s power and physical fit
GPU model names do not settle whether a particular card will fit your case or work with your power supply. Add-in-board designs can differ in dimensions, connectors, and cooling, so check the manufacturer’s specification page for the exact retail card and compare it with your PC.
- Confirm card length, height, slot clearance, and room for airflow in the case.
- Check the card’s power connectors and the power supply’s available connections and capacity.
- Use the card maker’s recommended system power as a reference, while accounting for the rest of your system.
Nvidia’s comparison lists 180 W total graphics power and 600 W required system power for the RTX 5060 Ti, and 250 W and 650 W respectively for the RTX 5070. These are Nvidia’s series-level figures; verify the requirements for the exact retail card before buying. Nvidia’s GeForce comparison table provides the listed specifications.

A practical shortlist before you buy
- Set your ceiling and market. Use current prices from shops available to you; do not assume a price or value ranking carries over from another country or date.
- Choose the target task. Write down your gaming resolution and settings, or the specific creative application or AI software you need to run.
- Compare matching evidence. Look for recent tests of the same games or application tasks, at comparable settings and versions. Include ray tracing and upscaling only when the comparison reflects how you will use them.
- Check memory and features. Confirm the exact card’s memory capacity and any required application, framework, encoder, or game support.
- Verify compatibility. Check the exact card’s measurements, power connectors, and system power guidance against your case and PSU.
- Recheck price and stock. If the price changes, revisit the comparison: the best choice can change even when performance does not.
