For a disc, the return policy depends on where you bought it: PlayStation Store’s US rule for its boxed games differs from the policies of other retailers.
First, identify what you bought and where
PlayStation Store’s refund policy applies to purchases made through that Store, subject to the account’s region. It does not set the return terms for a disc or voucher bought elsewhere. PlayStation states: “This policy does not cover refunds for purchases made outside of PlayStation™Store, such as purchases of PlayStation™Store gift cards or vouchers purchased from other retailers.” See PlayStation’s US Store cancellation policy.

The deadlines above describe the US Store policy, not a universal rule. Check the cancellation page for your account’s region and consider any consumer rights that apply where you live.
Digital games, DLC, and season passes
Games and add-ons
Under the US PlayStation Store policy, a digital game or add-on can generally be cancelled within 14 days of purchase only if downloading or streaming has not begun. Once it has started, the purchase is generally ineligible for a change-of-mind refund unless the content is faulty. PlayStation’s refund support page describes the same core conditions and request route.

Season passes and bundles
A season pass has a 14-day request window, but downloading or streaming any included digital item generally makes it ineligible unless an item is faulty. A digital promotional bundle has a similar 14-day rule: no part of the bundle must have started downloading or streaming. These are Store-policy conditions; they do not determine remedies required by local law.
Digital pre-orders
The cancellation deadline for a pre-order depends on when it was placed. In the US policy, the main content must not have started downloading or streaming in either case:

- More than 14 days before release: You can request cancellation before release.
- 14 days or less before release: You can request cancellation up to 14 days after payment.
Preloading counts as downloading. If automatic downloads are enabled, the main game may begin downloading without you manually starting it. Bonus content that was available immediately may stop working after cancellation. Review the US cancellation policy and the account-region terms before relying on these dates.
How to request a digital refund
- Open your PlayStation account’s Order details or Transaction History and find the purchase.
- Select an eligible transaction, choose Cancel Purchase, and follow the on-screen instructions.
- If the option is unavailable or the request will not complete, contact PlayStation Support or use its refund assistant.
Have your Online ID, sign-in email address, and the name of the purchase ready when contacting Support. PlayStation says a refund may take 10 days. It goes to the original payment method when possible; if that cannot be used, the refund is credited to your PlayStation wallet.

Subscriptions and wallet top-ups
Subscriptions
For a subscription, the US policy allows a request within 14 days of the initial transaction, including during a free trial. PlayStation may reduce the refund to account for use. Its regional support checklist limits this refund route to the first subscription payment, so check the terms for your account’s region before applying it to a recurring payment. Turning off renewal prevents future charges but does not refund payments already made.
Wallet funds and voucher codes
PlayStation Store wallet top-ups are non-refundable under the US policy. If you bought a voucher code from another retailer, contact that seller; PlayStation Store’s policy excludes purchases made outside the Store.

Disc returns: PlayStation Store versus another seller
A boxed game bought from PlayStation Store
For physical items sold through the US PlayStation Store, the policy generally allows a return within 30 days of delivery if the item remains in its original condition. The policy specifically excludes a boxed game from an ordinary refund if its seal has been broken, unless the game is faulty. This rule applies to PlayStation Store’s physical-item sales, not every PS5 or PlayStation disc sold in the US.
For a physical item sold through PlayStation Store that develops a fault within 30 days of delivery, the US policy says it qualifies for a full refund or replacement if one is available. Remedies for faults arising later may depend on applicable local law. Contact PlayStation about the specific item and problem.

A disc bought from another retailer
Use the seller’s return policy and the consumer-protection rules that apply to your purchase. Whether an opened disc can be returned, and the deadline for doing so, cannot be determined from PlayStation Store’s policy. Check the receipt, the retailer’s current terms, and the purchase country’s applicable rights; PlayStation says outside-Store purchases are not covered by its policy.
Faulty content and regional rights
The US policy recognizes exceptions for faulty digital content and physical items, but that does not mean every fault automatically results in a refund. Describe the problem to PlayStation Support for a Store purchase or to the retailer for an outside-Store purchase. Local law may provide additional rights, so consult the rules for the country where you bought the game if the seller disputes your claim.
