1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is the stronger fit if you want the larger stated inner display and Samsung’s higher-resolution main-camera specifications; the iPhone Duo is the natural contender if you want Apple’s first foldable iPhone and its announced camera and display features. Neither is a proven overall winner: as of October 7, 2026, Apple’s announced October 23 release date is still ahead, and the available head-to-head comparison is against the regular Galaxy Z Fold8—not the Ultra.
What is actually being compared?
These are not equally available products at the date of this comparison. Apple announced iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026, as its first foldable iPhone, with an announced release date of October 23, 2026. Samsung announced its expanded Galaxy Z family on July 22; its August launch release says the series began selling in select markets on August 7 and was expanding globally. Check local availability and price before buying.
The model distinction matters: the detailed editorial comparison available is between iPhone Duo and the regular Galaxy Z Fold8. Its Fold8-specific price, weight, durability rating, multitasking observations, and other comparisons cannot be carried over to the Fold8 Ultra. Samsung’s official launch release provides Ultra-specific specifications, but those figures do not make the regular Fold8 comparison an Ultra-versus-Duo test.
At a glance: confirmed specifications and limits
| Feature | Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra | iPhone Duo |
|---|---|---|
| Main display | 8-inch main display (Samsung, 2026) | 7.6-inch inner display (Apple, 2026) |
| Outer display | Not stated in the cited Ultra launch release | 5.4-inch outer display (Apple, 2026) |
| Rear cameras | 200 MP main camera with HDR support in 200 MP mode; 50 MP ultra-wide (Samsung, 2026) | 48 MP Fusion Main and 48 MP Fusion Ultra Wide (Apple, 2026) |
| Battery and charging | 5,000 mAh battery; 45 W fast charging (Samsung, 2026) | Not stated in the cited Apple announcement |
| Weight and thickness | 215 g; 4.1 mm unfolded (Samsung, 2026) | Not stated in the cited Apple announcement |
| Starting price | Not stated for the Ultra in the cited sources | $1,999 planned U.S. starting price for 256 GB, as reported by Tom’s Guide in 2026; launch was still upcoming on October 7 |
The price figures often seen beside Duo refer to the regular Fold8, not the Ultra. Tom’s Guide reported a planned U.S. starting price of $1,899 for a 256 GB regular Fold8 and $1,999 for a 256 GB Duo. That $100 difference is not a verified Ultra-versus-Duo price comparison. Tom’s Guide’s comparison also gives dimensions and other direct comparisons for the regular Fold8, so those details should not be attributed to the Ultra.

Which screen and workspace suit you?
Choose the Fold8 Ultra for the larger stated canvas
Samsung lists an 8-inch main display for the Ultra, compared with Apple’s announced 7.6-inch inner display for Duo. That makes the Ultra the larger by stated diagonal, but diagonal alone does not tell you the usable workspace: aspect ratio, app layout, software behavior, and how you use the unfolded screen all matter. Samsung positions the Ultra around productivity and content creation and says multitasking is easier on its large display. Those are Samsung’s product claims, not independent test findings.
Choose Duo if Apple’s foldable layout and features appeal
Apple describes Duo as having the largest display yet on an iPhone, with a nano-texture finish. The company also announced Duo Preview and Dual Capture camera features. These are announced product features, not independently verified performance results. If you depend on particular apps or workflows, confirm they support the folded and unfolded layouts you expect before purchase.

Which camera system fits your photography?
Fold8 Ultra: high-resolution main and ultra-wide cameras
Samsung lists a 200 MP main camera, with HDR support when shooting in 200 MP mode, and a 50 MP ultra-wide camera. These are Ultra-specific specifications. The stated resolution does not establish image quality, low-light performance, zoom range, or video quality on its own.
iPhone Duo: two 48 MP rear cameras and front-camera features
Apple’s announcement specifies a 48 MP Fusion Main camera and a 48 MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera, plus a Center Stage front camera and an under-display FaceTime camera. Apple also announced Duo Preview and Dual Capture. Treat these as manufacturer-described features until independent testing is available; the announcement alone does not establish which phone takes better photos or video.

How do they compare for carrying, multitasking, durability, and power?
Carry comfort: only the Ultra’s stated figures are comparable here
Samsung gives the Fold8 Ultra’s weight as 215 g and its unfolded thickness as 4.1 mm. Tom’s Guide lists the regular Fold8 at 201 g and 4.5 mm unfolded, and Duo at 254 g and 5.2 mm unfolded. Those latter measurements are not an Ultra-versus-Duo comparison. A verified Duo weight and like-for-like folded dimensions are not stated in the cited official announcement, so folded-pocket comfort cannot be ranked reliably from these figures.
Multitasking and pen workflows
Samsung says the Ultra supports easier multitasking and mentions Galaxy AI and partner Gemini Intelligence experiences; these are Samsung descriptions. The editorial comparison reports two split-view windows on Duo versus more simultaneous windows on the regular Fold8, not the Ultra. It also reports Apple Pencil support for Duo, but does not establish the exact compatible Pencil model. If a pen workflow matters, verify compatibility for the specific accessory and app before buying.

Durability ratings are not established for this exact pair
The editorial comparison reports IP68 for Duo and IP48 for the regular Fold8. That Fold8 rating must not be assigned to the Fold8 Ultra. The cited sources do not establish an Ultra-specific water-and-dust rating or comparable warranty and repair terms for both devices. Check the official regional product and support pages for the exact model before relying on a durability rating.
Battery capacity is not a battery-life result
Samsung specifies a 5,000 mAh battery and 45 W fast charging for the Ultra. Apple’s cited announcement does not state Duo battery capacity or charging figures. Tom’s Guide recorded 12 hours and 19 minutes in a web-surfing-over-5G battery test of the regular Fold8; it did not test the Ultra or Duo, so that result cannot determine which title device lasts longer.
Which foldable should you choose?
- Lean toward Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra if your priority is the larger stated main display, Samsung’s published 200 MP main and 50 MP ultra-wide camera specifications, or the stated 5,000 mAh battery and 45 W charging.
- Lean toward iPhone Duo if you want Apple’s first foldable iPhone, the announced 7.6-inch inner and 5.4-inch outer displays, or Apple’s announced camera and front-camera features—and you are comfortable deciding before independent reviews are available.
- Wait for independent, model-specific comparisons if your decision depends on battery life, real-world photo quality, durability, folded comfort, app behavior, or an Ultra-versus-Duo price difference. The available direct comparison and Fold8 battery test cover the regular Fold8, not the Ultra.
For either phone, compare the storage tier, local price, release status, and exact regional model at the time you buy. Duo availability is especially time-sensitive because its announced release date falls after October 7, 2026.
