Yes. In supported editions of Excel for Windows, use Power Query’s PDF connector to select tables detected in a PDF, then load them into a worksheet or transform them first. Connector availability differs by Excel edition, and Microsoft’s current listed Power Query sources for Excel for Mac and Excel for the web do not include PDF.
How to import a PDF into Excel for Windows
- In Excel, go to Data > Get Data > From File > From PDF.
- Select the PDF file. Excel opens Navigator and displays the tables it detects.
- Select a table and review its preview. Choose Load to put it in a worksheet, or Transform Data to inspect and shape it in Power Query before loading.
Microsoft says the PDF connector may require .NET Framework 4.5 or later. See Microsoft’s Power Query import instructions.
Where “From PDF” is available
The connector is not present in every Excel edition or platform. Microsoft’s version and source lists distinguish the available options:

These distinctions are based on Microsoft’s Power Query data sources by Excel version, Mac Power Query source list, and Excel for the web source list. If the menu is missing, check the exact edition and platform rather than assuming the feature is available in every copy of Excel for Windows.

What to do if Excel does not extract the table cleanly
Inspect and shape detected data
Use Transform Data when the preview needs inspection or cleanup before it reaches the worksheet. Power Query can shape data before loading it; query data may also be refreshed later. Available sources and features vary by platform. Details are in Microsoft’s Power Query overview.
Be cautious with scanned PDFs
A scanned PDF may consist of page images rather than selectable text and structured tables. Microsoft’s reviewed PDF import instructions do not establish that the connector performs OCR on image-only pages, so do not assume Excel will extract those pages. If Navigator does not show usable tables, an OCR-capable conversion workflow may be needed. Check extracted text and figures against the original PDF before using the results.

Choosing the right PDF-to-Excel route
- Check support first: Confirm your Excel platform and Windows edition, since the built-in connector is not listed for every version.
- Consider the PDF’s contents: A document with selectable text and tables differs from one made only of page images; OCR behavior is not established by Microsoft’s reviewed connector instructions.
- Allow for cleanup: Preview the detected table and use Power Query to shape it when necessary.
- Consider repeat use: Power Query can refresh query data later, which may help when the same workflow is reused; source availability varies by platform.
