Yes. You can add apps to Microsoft Teams for personal use, chats and channels, meetings, or messages—but each app supports different placements, and your organization may restrict access. To get started, open Apps in Teams, search or browse, select an app to review its details, then choose Add. Microsoft’s app-addition guide describes the available paths and context-dependent options.
How to add an app in Teams

In Teams, open Apps.

Search for an app or browse the available listings.

Select the app and read its overview and details, including its capabilities and requested permissions.

Select Add if the option is available and you are satisfied with the access it requests.

The app listing and your account’s permissions determine whether you can complete the installation.
Where Teams apps can be used
An app may be available in one or more Teams contexts. The app must support the placement you want, and installation options can depend on your role and organization settings.

These are options, not universal features: an app may not support every placement. See Microsoft’s instructions for adding Teams apps for context-specific steps.
Why you may not see Add
If an app is missing or Teams does not let you add it, the restriction may come from your team or organization rather than from a mistake in your steps.

Team settings: A team owner can control whether members may add or remove apps. Some apps also require installation by an owner because they request additional permissions.

Organization app controls: Administrators manage which apps are available and which users can access them. They may need to allow an app or grant access.

Installation and visibility are different: Admin setup policies can install or pin apps for users, while app access is governed through the applicable app controls. An app appearing in Teams does not by itself establish that you can use it.
Ask your team owner or IT administrator whether the app is allowed and whether your account has access. Microsoft’s admin guidance covers app management in Teams, including app-centric management and app permission policies; organizations should use the method active in their tenant. Setup policies can also manage app installation, pinning, and custom app uploads.

Check permissions before connecting an app
Review the app’s listing and requested permissions before granting access. Depending on what it does, an app may access user or organizational information. Some permissions require user or administrator consent.
Two permission mechanisms to know about are Microsoft Entra ID permissions, which require the appropriate consent, and resource-specific consent (RSC), which an app declares in its Teams manifest for access to specific team or chat resources. They are distinct mechanisms, so the permissions for one app should not be assumed to apply to another. Administrators can inspect requested permissions and privilege information in Teams admin tools. For details, see Microsoft’s Teams app permissions guidance.
